I think I might be the clumsiest SOB in the world when it comes to my watches... frequently rubbing my wrist against one abrasive surface or another.

Now, I’m truly someone who thinks watches should be worn and not “preserved” and on a daily basis, I don’t sweat the little flea bites and scratches that accumulate on my watches.

That said, I’ve recently been getting that itch to sell a few watches from my collection to fund another watch I’m interested in and that’s where my clumsiness becomes a bit of a problem.

Looking at comparable watches for sale, My impression is that most people manage to wear their watches and yet somehow manage to keep them in immaculate, seemingly-untouched condition.

Who are you people and do you live in hermetically sealed bubbles? I hate you all.

As I don’t have the video evidence of any one of my mishaps, this Simpsons video montage gives you a decent sense of the scale and degree of regret I’ve experienced over the years:

Everyone knows you need a lot of doh to buy luxury watches.

My Nemesis's are rain, sweat, chores involving water and door frames.

Door frames have caused damage to each and every watch in my collection.

I managed to scratch the crystal on my Speedy Tuesday within 2 hours of receiving it. Its okay because I think watches should be worn and the marks of wear and tear only add to the value of ownership.

Of all my possessions it is usually my iPhone that takes the most damage.

Plus one for door frames for me. The worst offenders are the tiled entries into my classroom at work. I took a pretty good chip pout of the crystal on one of Hamiltons on that sucker, have scratched the crystal on my Accutron and the one on my Connie, all on the excat same spot. I haven't damaged every single one of my wrist watches on my door frame but I have smacked most of them against it at some point. I must be a bit clutzy too.

    +1 on both points.

For me it's general wear and tear. I do try to avoid contact with my watch, but I am firmly in the "If I own it I'm wearing it" school of watch collecting. If I ever own a Multi $$$$ or $$$$$ Dollar watch I may feel and behave differently, but until then, own it, wear it, ENJOY it, and dont worry about incidental damage.

My iphone on the other hand has this:

So i never worry about my phone.

I only buy watches with these features already included. That way I never notice the ones I add.

It’s a great watch. It’s been my daily for over two years. I guess I’m a bit hard on things.... I wish it came with a brushed bezel. I love the look of the PCL’s but they’re not very practical. I don’t worry much about that though. I just wear it.
