I think you're question has been answered, but I'll weigh in with my personal experience.
I found out the hard way last December that not only can a Saphire crystal shatter and need replacing, but when it shatters it can also damage the dial and hands leading to repair costs much higher than expected.
Final cost was around $1700 CAD for new Crystal, dial, hands and service. Certainly makes cost of Polywatch and occasional minutes spent polishing Hesalite seem very cheap in comparison.
