Anyone bid on this technical dial 135.011?

I was watching this on ebay. I don’t have the funds to add a watch to my collection currently, so I didn’t bid. I’d really like to pick one of these up at some point, though.

Condition seems pretty great to me. Seller is an antiques dealer who described it as “collector grade”, and it doesn’t look too far off from that to my eye. What do others think of the condition and final price? Was anyone else watching or bidding? Maybe another OF member won the auction?

I was watching it too. I thought it a very nice example and was glad I accidentally forgot about it until the auction was closed. Too tempting.

As close as I come is this one, from a fellow OF member.

I didn't really have the funds either but I bid on it anyway! 😉
Seriously though, I have the nearly identical white technical dial version and compared it to that. The dial looked good, and the scratches appeared to be on the crystal. Interesting bracelet, but that would be easy to change.
These don't come up that often for sale, so the price seemed pretty fair to me.

I watched it down to the last second and had to restrain myself from bidding. It was at $918 until the last 5 seconds. I might be kicking myself today if it had sold for that price and I hadn’t tried to buy it.

That Geneve is really great looking. What is the reference? I have a Seamaster Cosmic 165.022 with a similar dial. I’ll post a pic when I get it back from a service (hopefully tomorrow, it’s been delayed a few weeks due to covid.)

I agree about the scratches appearing to be on the crystal and the price being reasonable. Would love to see a pic of your white dial (has anyone called dibs? 😗)

It looked to be in great condition were it matters, but I still cannot fathom why these are so expensive. The Seamaster 600 case is one of the most underwhelming wearing experiences I've had with Omega.

The case was actually another thing that deterred me from bidding. I love the dial, but I worried the case might be exactly as you’ve described it - underwhelming, once I had it on my wrist.

Serious question: What, exactly, is "technical" about the dial? Surely not that it is split into four quadrants by cross-hairs.

Could it be the entirely useless, redundant inner second track?

Help me out - please!

My watch is in WRUW from earlier today. @X350 XJR 's version is a much cleaner example of mine, so you might want to call dibs on his instead (before I do). 😁

It's listed as "Zifferblatt Technic" in the Omega catalogs. It reminds me of a gauge or instrument dial, like the "Speedmaster Companion" version above. I also see it as a precursor to the first Dynamic dials where the minute track and indicators extended out longer toward the center of dial. Crosshair dials are love/hate for some, I like the gunsight imagery they evoke.

As you can tell, I badly want to underwhelm myself with the black dialed one.

Thanks. So the answer is simply that it was a marketing description.

I'm not in any way denigrating the look of the dial, but as attractive as it may be, I find there to be nothing technical about it.

Hardly entirely useless or redundant Tony.

The outer track is for minutes only, while the centrally placed inner track is dedicated to monitoring seconds.

😉

Ddit for @Tony C.

Well, Jim, given that there are 60 of each, and that they are in perfect alignment, I'm not sure that I see any meaningful advantage to having both tracks, or how they aren't essentially redundant!
