Any suggestions on older Rolex’s that can be found for around $1,000?

As noted, the only $1k Rolex watches you'll find now are obscure things. No man's watch in an Oyster case. $2k is probably the bare minimum entry point for a 34mm oyster-cased model of decent quality, more with a bracelet. If you're bottom-fishing for a watch in FAIR condition, maybe $1500.

I have a nice running 1968 34MM 34MM 1002 $2400 on a bracelet, $2k head only. Runs strong, winds a little tight, keeps good time, pretty clean.

Nice! 12 link rivet bracelet too- that’s worth the additional $400

I keep thinking about buying a vintage blue-dialled OP/Datejust for me and my girlfriend, but every time I get close to taking action I begin considering how many much, much more interesting watches could be bought with that sort of money.

A top grade Certina DS with a standard dial will be $500, while one with a special dial will top out at $1,200. A really, really uncommon variety will be around $2,500 and you will never bump into anyone owning one similar - probably not even at GTGs.

And as you probably know, the blue dial DJs have become quite desirable for some reason.

They can be found, just got to keep your eyes open. I have picked up DJ's for under 1k but those are few and far between. I do have a Rolex or 2 that may be in your price range but in 34mm

You do? I would love to have a look at them! 34mm is just fine for me.

I need to get better pics for sure. I have had this one a while.
Rolex 6426
Manual wind
It may be too small for some but I don't mind it all.
