Any scam buyers of late?

I have a watch up for sale and a new member is looking to buy. This is quite normal in my experience but I am getting some “pink flags” not exactly red but just feels a little fishy. Maybe the buyer is just nervous and inexperienced, when I first bought here I may have looked odd with some of my questions, comments etc.
So I was wondering has anyone else received messages about watches up on the for sale boards, that turned out to be scam buyers? Please drop me a dm if you have seen anything.
Thanks
Shaun

Are they established members? As soon as I hit 2,000 posts I started buying I probably asked a few dumb questions but I didn’t have much concern since the members I bought from had been around forever. I know your on the opposite spectrum selling but if it’s someone who’s been around I always found that comforting. I’ve done pay pal, bank checks and even a couple personal checks never had an issue but if you are feeling funny there may be good reason. The whole process can be nerve wracking wiring money orders or PayPal fiends and hoping something comes but tbh the last couple guys I bought from I’d send them an envelope of cash if they requested and wouldn’t bat an eye.
Hopefully you are just dealing with someone who is asking questions as they are newer and everything is good. I really dislike hearing about the occasional scams here.

If you are an established member with feedback, then the onus is on the buyer to either provide a similar level of comfort, or provide payment through a non-reversible payment method, such as bank transfer (cleared funds).

My view … Ask a direct question. “What is your issue?” If you don’t get a straight answer , move on because there is real trouble ahead.

New member, no references = no reversible payment method. Money in the bank, then ship.

I was told a long time ago that a check is only good after it clears you account. Cash is always King and always will be King!

Well, after 30 days of clearing your account. If it's fraudulent, it could still be reversed weeks after you deposit it.

But for anyone to suggest sending me a chq these days, that's a HUGE red flag!

I’m struggling to remember the last time I wrote or received a cheque - it would have to be decades, not years, since the last time. Scammers writing cheques would be like Leonardo Di Caprio in Catch Me If You Can 😎

An immediate wire transfer, and not an ACH transfer which can be reversed once you ship the watch, is the way to go for unknown buyers. Prior to that there should be lots of dialogue, and maybe a phone call or two. It's a two way street, be proactive.

Yes even with cashiers and bank checks scams or common. I did mention two recent purchases I did use both a certified bank check and even a personal check. One was probably a year ago the other several months but I had established relationships and numerous conversations with those sellers. They even offered to send the watches first to make sure I liked them but I don’t like doing things like that. What if I got hit by a truck before I could pay them. So I wasn’t implying these are common forms of payment but I would accept a personal check from them. A first time sale or dealing with someone you don’t know completely different story. I notice Zelle is becoming quite popular. Of course the watch seller wants to give himself every form of protection possible and preferable make it so in no way shape or form can a buyer get his money back but buyers, many of whom are just honest dudes trying to buy a watch would like some form of protection if they are sending thousands of dollars out in the hopes something shows up in the mail. In some cases I’d rather just pay a premium to an established on line shop. So there are two sides to the transaction. “I’d like to buy that watch” response “sure wire me the money when I know it’s in my account I’ll mail you something I won’t take a check cause I’m not stupid I won’t take any chance at all of getting ripped off.” Seems there gotta be some kind of middle ground.
