Anyone remember stumbling across this auction last week? It has what looks to be some nice Omega parts in it, but what makes it really special are the 5 Rolex Milsub inserts strewn about! Unfortunately, I didn’t see it to bid ;(

    Noooo

Any idea if they’re legitimate inserts or repros ?

looking legit. If they're repros, the fakers have basically fully mastered it, down to the correct tilt of the serif on the individual minute hash marks. The buyer has posted clear macro-style photos since receiving the inserts. There were also 2- long 5 inserts and a mkiii insert, along with some vintage Omega parts.

I saw it and skipped past when it was live. But I guess I’d have never been competitive against a knowledgeable bidder anyway. Wow.

Sorry, I was incorrect, there are actually 6 milsubs in the lot. He said that he bid $3000GBP as a max bid. Apparently nobody noticed them. I guess I'll be widening my search parameters on ebay now. Just what I need, more time spent on ebay. Current estimates are approx. $25,000 retail......per milsub insert.

i know the seller is now aware of what he has sold as people have been messaging him on ebay to tell him

This is a shit thing to do. I understand that others might be chasing the possibility he has more, but surely the original buyer has asked that already. Now the seller has a crappy feeling for the rest of his life, and maybe it generates a lot of friction and dispute between him and the buyer. The buyer put in the time, did his homework, took the risk, and deserves the benefit.

How could one person have 6 x 5514 bezels!? Not like they’re common.

Well they’re military, so it’s fair to assume a small group of watchmakers dealt with these very frequently, and therefore it’s certainly possible that this could happen. And it’s happened twice to me. Once in Germany with a lot that included Blancpain dials, IWC Bund movements, IWC Bund and Heuer Bund crowns and pushers, IWC deckwatch movement parts, crystals and do on. And another time with four rare Blancpain Mil dials in one lot. And recently a reseller in the Netherlands had three Longines COSD cases.

    X2

What good does that do for the seller other than to make him feel absolutely miserable for the rest of his life?

As to seller-I can’t imagine that he has any legal recourse; after all, he listed the items for sale in an auction format, provided the descriptions and pictures, and let the market decide what his lot was worth in that moment.

Out of curiosity- if this lucky eBay story isn’t the truth, what do you conjure in your mind?

Wow, what an awesome Xmas present!

And I’m guessing the Kissing 4 and Long 5 are a Rolex equivalent of a DON - you learn something new everyday.

Now, I’m off to hunt for a barn to rummage around in...

I need to up my Mil. Watch/Rolex game in 2019...

Awesome find for the buyer. But this should also be a reminder that a seller should do his homework before putting something up for public auction.
