This was my pride and joy when I lived in Zimbabwe. Unfortunately had to move to a country where right hand drive cars are illegal. I posted it on the Land Rover S1 forum and within an hour a chap from Germany was making plans to come and buy it and drive it to South Africa for shipping to Germany. This he did, via Vic Falls and Botswana, and his adventure was serialised in the S1 magazine 'legends'.
My snow vehicle for many years was a basic YJ hardtop, manual 4 cylinder. A terrible ride and very slow, but got the job done and never failed me. The best feature was the ability to wash out the interior with a hose.
Wow awesome. I had an 89 XJ limited for awhile, I’m actually currently a passenger in my GF’s 99 XJ lol. I had what I consider to be a giant Jeep. I had a 96 Ram 5.9L 4x4 club cab short bed. Last of the solid axel 1/2 ton pickups. Ran 34’s on stock suspension with crazy articulation Dana 40 up front Chrysler 9 1/2 in back. Went out and did trails with the hardcore Jeep guys and carried the welding equipment and spare axels in case they broke. Ran sand dunes in Glamis, forded 3 feet of water, never once got stuck or high centered. The Chevy and fords that tried to follow me had major issues. I’ll admit it was to wide for a lot of trails but the power and clearance is something I really really miss. Such a young lad in this... I’m 6’4 on a 35% grade it’s actually on 3 wheels in this picture with the front right in the air. Back left is compressed about 14inches. Front right about 6. Roof was about 6’7 on flat ground all stock suspension. They made those big.
1977 CJ5 Blue Levi pkg with a straight 6 238 Dad bought it in 1979 with about 25k miles 43k original miles since we mostly used a car-hauler to and from Put the spare on rear, but still have the side mount
I absolutely LOVE those CJ-5s. I had a CJ-7 in the early-1980's, right after they stopped selling the CJ-5. I wanted the 5 but not used, so I settled for the 7. What a blast to drive. I'd strack the windshield, removed the doors and roof, and cruise around. When on the road I'd wear aviator goggles. They went well with the siht-eating grin I couldn't wipe off my face. Lots of trails and dirt roads around here too. Especially in the winter, we'd bundle up and get in some off-roading in the snow.
Was at an American Motors show and shine on Saturday. I don’t own a Jeep, but at the show and shine was a Kenosha Jeep (1977 vintage). Admired from afar, it was a top grade restoration. Got closer to it, to find a CHEV V-8 engine in it! As an AMC owner myself, I was appalled.
"Any Older Jeep Lovers/Owners on the Forum?" Well, I'm 66 if that's what you mean by "older". I've had Jeeps continuous since '87. My current baby, 2012 6 speed with the Pentastar V6.
My two favorite cars that I’ve owned. My 1999 Jeep Wrangler with 4inch lift. Pics from 2001. Still miss it. 2001 landrover discovery. Also gone but not forgotten.
1989 Grand Wagoneer....bought it for my teenage sons to use, but Fergus and Charlie have claimed it for their own....more than a quarter of a million miles and still running Jeep strong.....
When I'm not spending my hard earned money on beautiful -for me- watches, then I'm repairing my jeeps. Here you have a 1982 Jeep CJ8 Scrambler, weathered and well used in the Mexico-USA desert areas. 37 year old stock 4.2L engine- repaired of course- , 5 speed manual transmission, 4inch lifted and 4.11 gears... drives like an slow old tractor...LOL My son learned how to drive a manual transitional on this Jeep when he was 14yo...nice memories!!
I work for a company here in the UK who, amongst other things prepare military conversions. We have just completed a General Service version of the Ford Ranger. Kind of spiritual successor to the UK MoD LandRover WOLF. The MoD still have over 8000 Landies and since LR stopped production some years ago are struggling to maintain the fleet. We believe this could be a great modern replacement since LR are no longer in the business of building utility vehicles. What do you guys and gals think?
Give me the Hot Wheels version and some GI Joe action figures and I'll be good for hours! Needs a 50 cal. mounted topside though.
