Guess the shill won the first auction.

Roger that. I still like it, just not $800 worth.

I think that one was worth more, as the case was much sharper and it has a black dial, which generally brings a premium.

On the other hand, the gold capped watch did have a NOS original watchband, and the circular chapter ring, which are both rare.

I guess my point is that while it's well worth $500, I'm not sure it's worth $800 in that condition.

On the issue of shilling (the bidding practice, not the old British coin), I get concerned when I see a series of escalating bids from one person. That technique usually doesn't win an auction, but generally succeeds in pushing up the listed price on eBay. That's a flaw in the eBay system.

    Take care,

I'll occasionally shoot one across the bow with 15 minutes left, meaning if the current price is $800 and I expect to bid $1500, I might shoot out $1100 to see if that tops the current leader.

At the end of the day, I don't think it mattered, as my bid was higher than all the "laddered" bids. The (non) winner had bid very early on anyway.

However, I just get the feeling that the seller just wasn't happy with the final auction price, whether a shill or not.

You know you have a problem when even your shill won't give you a decent bid for your item. :p

Now, it's BIN at $800 or Best Offer. I'm assuming the seller has already been contacted, regarding the offer they'd accept. IMO, with a BIN at $800, the seller may accept less.

Did anyone notice that the extra strap with original buckle and "Polarouter" strap tag is not included in the new listing? The buckle and tag could have been worth $75-125...just don't see UG buckles for sale!

I think there may have been some funny business going on in the first auction. Maybe the seller realized the value of parts mentioned above and sold them separately?
