Funny as I have never been a Rolex sub guy. I was on a yacht for work the other day and I saw a beat up older Rolex that was worn hard and cleaned in salt water daily (and not that flashy, polished as a city guy would wear it). and it looked super cool.

Still love condition condition on a vintage watch for collection

But have found myself looking at rugged classics for everyday wear

Am I just over cheap beaters for work lately or are others that don't wear a suit and tie daily that wear a decent well worn watch daily.

I have zero interest in a newer Sub (or any newer Rolex models really). as you say, to shiny and flashy with shiny dials, gold surrounds, etc. I'll take a nice matte dial with tritium any day though...even when they look nearly new, they are not flashy...

I think lots of people agree. As much as I love seeing perfect collectors examples of vintage watches, I prefer my vintage pieces to be wearable. More affordable that way too.

May add a vintage sub someday, but there are quite a few other vintage references ahead of it in the queue.

I do love my SubC though. Only "modern" watch I own - by several decades. And it is the one I always grab for rough duty.

Is that because the other is worth about as much as the car in the picture beneath it? :)

6202.JPG Not sure what the 5508 is worth, but definitely not as much as a car of any substance. Crazy asking prices that we see don't seem to reflect actual transactions. It has some value, but not huge, I believe. Maybe others have a more informed view.

In any event, I like the look of the 7928 a lot more, so it is worn regularly while the 5508 mostly sits at the bank. And here is an earlier cousin that gets occasional use but also is mostly at the bank.

    Cheers. 6202.JPG
