Hello Rolex experts. I bought this many years ago and have always been under the impression it's a redial and probably not worth much but I like the design and still get a lot of pleasure from wearing it.
For info. it's a Ref. 4198, the movement number is 80638, case number 057849. Rolex dated it to 1942. It's about 32mm excluding crown.
I've never been able to find out much about it and would appreciate anything that Rolex gurus can tell me.

I am not a Rolex expert, but came across this one in gold:

Looks similar to yours, but appears to have a printed crown on the dial whereas yours has an applied golden crwon logo. Your dial looks absolutely pristine, so unless kept in an oxygen free time capsule, I can understand why there is doubt about it. I don not know what material these dials were made of, but in one of your close ups it looks like there is some warping around the crown logo and some of the numerals. Or is this an optic effect of the picture? In any case, if this is a restored dial, they did a stunning job and it is a very nice and classy watch.

Thanks bieb1. The marks are barely visible to the naked eye, they show up more in the close ups shown. I don't know what the dial is coated with but assumed that the crown was fitted on while the surface had not completely set and hence the marks. However, I've no idea if that's the reason.
The teardrop lugs look like ref.4134 models that I've seen pictures of and they are also snap back automatics like this one.
One day I'll take a trip to Geneva and maybe Rolex will offer some help.

Those marks may be associated with the refinisher removing the dial furniture. That said, yes it's a redial, but a nice watch none the less.

A sure way to tell on these if the dial/hands may not be "kosher" is the fact that these are luminous hands (likely original) on a non-luminous (refinished) dial. The fonts are not quite correct, and an original from this time would say "SWISS MADE" (not "SWISS") at the bottom.
