I always wonder if these are staged.
I've been to the US version. My sister was actually picked to be on the show and I can tell you that it is not staged.

She showed the appraiser her collection of Native American silver jewelry. The appraiser picked several of the better pieces and took them behind a curtain. I assume that she was researching the makers and values and also lobbying the producers to put them on the show. About an hour later she came back and asked my sister if she wanted to be on Antiques Roadshow.

Once the releases were signed, they both had to get made up for TV and waited to be taped. I watched several other appraisals before hers. Some of the people knew their stuff was valuable, most did not.

After that, it was about a 9 month wait until the show actually aired.

Great story. 30,000 - 40,000 GBP seems a little ambitious though?

I have to say I'm puzzled. The story is about five years old, and the current hook appears to be that BBC is re-broadcasting it - which might rate two lines in a TV listings site or magazine (ask your parents). GB News is a fairly new insurgent TV channel attempting to emulate Fox News, but with a very long way still to go. Even so, writing up a plug for someone else's repeated popular show is pretty desperate, and almost makes me feel sorry for them. But the mysterious twist is, they are definitely no fans of BBC, either their resources, their approach to politics, or their funding model. Am I being naive - what is going on here? I have tried to spot an angle that makes the channel's enemies look e.g. ridiculous or criminal, but I just can't see it. 👎

Doing anything they can to drive eyeballs to their site?

I could have sworn that I had seen this particular Antiques Roadshow come up in the past, and your comment cements it. More than likely it was an AI generated article to drive clicks.

Timely post as 55 years ago... Filming completed.
By the summer of 1969, Director John Sturges - Columbia Pictures had completed filming for the American science fiction movie "Marooned, the Saga of Ironman One!", starring Gene Heckman and Gregory Peck.
Based on the 1964 novel "Marooned", the movie tells the story of three astronauts on their way to a US space station. The movie attracted great public attention when it came out in November 1969, just between the Apollo 11 & 12 manned lunar missions!
Wristwatch-wise interesting as at least half a dozen Omega Speedmaster 145.012 "Ultraman" chronographs were used as in the movie, both the astronauts and the ground mission controllers all wore such an Omega chronograph with the orange chronograph hand.
Even this black & white Columbia Pictures portrait photo clearly shows the running large chronograph hand was a special color!
Thus far none of the Omega Speedmaster Ultraman chronograph versions made it into space...
