Antique “Tank” style

I found this watch in a box of stuff from my parents. I’ve had that box 20 maybe 30 years.

I took it to a local watchmaker who is going to replace the crystal. He found an original match. His service is $300 and advised not to do a full service. To just fix the crystal and keep it as an heirloom. I have plenty of other watches to wear.

Agree with his opinion?

There's no need to service the watch unless you plan to use it. If it just sits in a drawer unworn for 10 years, it will need to be serviced again. I have some pocket watches that I inherited from my father that I might wind up every couple of years to see them tick, and I wouldn't bother to have them serviced.
