Really want to get my hands on a vintage speedy from the Step Dial era (as to why I'm posting again today)

This one in at 5000 eur.

What do the experts think?

I'm not an expert by any means but it appears to have 321 and 861 stamped on the movement, is that correct?

321 is the first 3 of the serial, I think.

Hi @doggyvufvuf. People are more than willing to help you and give opinions but it does tend to get the conversation flowing if you start with your opinions about the watch. Even if you have little experience you can share your thoughts not on overall condition, attractiveness, sharpness of the case etc.

Visiting the Speedmaster101 site will also let you compare it to other examples of this ref.

Oh youre absolutely right 😀

From what I cam gather the watch is legit. I really like the patina on the dial, and 5000 seems fair.

From what I can see it's a very nice example of a 145.022. Great looking dial, bezel insert, and hands. Case maybe lightly polished.
What is on the back of the case-back? Some came with an engraved medallion caseback and others with a smooth caseback. The price seems fair.

Nice looking example.

It looks generally quite nice. Is it a hippocampus back or a straight writing?

Everything appears correct and in nice condition. It has the greenish lume you see from this period which imo although correct isn’t as attractive as the more yellow lume.

Hands and beze also look good.

The picture does suggest a strange area on the case at the rear of the ten o’clock lug. I’d like more case pics to check this out and gauge overall case condition.

Has it been serviced? I feel like it should have at this price.

Apologies I missed the -71 caseback and thought it was a-69.

Disregard the hippocampus/straight writing comment above.

And hippo back
From what I understand the hippo backs with no wording just a smooth back are less common.

All -71 backs have the hippocampus. Rarely, they are lacking the moonwatch printing. As usual, a single photo from the OP would avoid all of this speculation.

Do you have the watch in hand or are they sellers photos?

They are quite poor for making an evaluation but from what I can see the case looks reasonable but appears to have had a going over.

Then again, the photos are terribly out of focus and better ones may show the case is better than it appears here.
