Those of you who have been around OF for a while understand the affinity many of us have for squirrels, and is the reason we like to share squirrel-related topics and other worthy news such as this one...
A young red squirrel from last summer, must feel welcome here now. It regularly stops by our bird feeder.
Are you sure that's a red? No tufts of hair on the ears, and the red (Sciurus vulgaris) is found in Europe and Siberia. There are some reds close to where I live but I've not seen them there, only in Scotland.
Our pal "fatso" enjoying one of his favorite snacks...a peanut butter sandwich. His next favorites are grapes and graham crackers. He will climb the laurel bushes in front of the house and peer in through the windows to watch for when any of us is heading for the front door so he can intercept and plea for a snack. He is smart and knows when we turn around and head back inside we are grabbing him something so he patiently waits on the front steps for when we return. He is typical looking of the squirrels in the northeast states. I never have seen a red/brown one yet.
