This 2998-3 sold at Kaplans yesterday for €73k+ all in. Is the 2998-3 the new 2998-1,2? Can a lollipop taste so good? http://www.kaplans.se/en/auktioner/3287/vara/1393732
Maybe it was due to the military provenance.. Any opinion on that @watchyouwant ? UNEF military issued watch, makes it a global military piece! As many countries have membership in the UN.
The original paperwork and boxes are a big plus. The 2915-3 long hour hand and perfect lume (even the lolli) coupled with a worn bezel and case is not.
IIrc a lollipop hand sold on here not long ago for 7k usd. Without lume. Not surprised by the price of this Speedy.
The extract states it was delivered for UNEF - United Nations Emergency Force in Gaza in 1961. The UNEF (United Nation Emergency Force) was indeed a Military Force.
Probably ordered for these guys below courtesy of Dec. 1959 – Jan. 1964 Lieutenant-General P. S. Gyani (India) Source: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_Emergency_Force
UNEF in Gaza was a border peace keeping force comprised of soldiers. They were not involved in combat operations and left, immediately, when ordered to do so by Egypt in May 1967
Probably explains the lovely dial and hands condition. So would this be classified as military issued?
Sweden contributed whit troops to UN missions and to make it attractive they had no tax on salary, and where abel to order watches and other things taxfree in the mess. So no its not issued, We se UN watches of all brands in Sweden regular.
It's like a NAFI delivered watch. Bought by a swedish UN service man tax-free while on mission and brought home thereafter. It's not an issued watch by any means Very nice kit though. The box is fantastic!
