As there actually are some light here today I took the opportunity to photograph this cushion cased Omega Seamaster. The ref 166.064, cal 752 is a rather big watch at 38mm and it takes a 22mm strap. Aside from the sparkly dial, with its applied Omega logo and hour indexes, the minute index ring doubles as tension ring for the (plexi) crystal and it has a special shock absorption system that make it extra interesting. It involves some rubber pieces cushioning the movement from the case. If you look at the pictures you can see the dial not touching the tension/minute track ring. Leaving some room for "suspension travel" as they say when talking about vehicles. This watch was NOS when I got it in 2008 and it came from the same stash as the Seamaster chronometer 168.023 I posted the other day. https://omegaforums.net/threads/seamaster-chronometer-168-023-sparkly.47586/ It is a very comfortable watch. It sits perfectly on the wrist and the 22mm genuine alligator Hirsch helps in that. Cushion cased watches are not everyones cup of tea but I like this one. Could this be a cushion-cushion watch - as it has that shape and actually incorporates a cushioning system...? I did not mention the hands in my post on the other sparkly. That was wrong of me. To make the same mistake again would be foolish. Both that one and this has very nicely worked hands with both a black section and a luminous "white" section. Something that really adds to its readability both in light and in darkness. The only thing that would make this watch "better" for me would be if it was a 168.032. Yes - this watch also came as a cal 751 certified chronometer. But you cannot have everything you want - always... In owning this watch - settling for the second best feels quite okay.
Lovely watch OP. Just curious, what would be a fair price for one of these nowadays ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That's because nobody is as C-razy as I am. I've owned almost every version of Longines and Omega C-cases except that reference and the Big Blues from the same era. ps - I still want that 168.023 too.
Sorry but this crappy pic is what I have - but both the sparklies in one pic at least. And of course some jerk has scratched the 166.064 when opening it. Not me and not my watchmaker. Someone earlier - and the worst part of it is that it was a NOS watch with purple snot on the caseback - which means it must have happened between when it was found and when I got it.
