Hi fellows! I came across below SM300, now of course I wonder a bout its originality... Seller state only this: year: 1971 cal: 565 case n°: 613288 Bracelet: 1171 I was concern about the 6/9 closing and the lake of frame for date window but found a similar one in AJTT (p325). I have no knowledge on this iconic watch as SM300 is way ot of my economic reality. However a good deal is possible here (1st red flag I guess... ) So if you guys could help me to run away or to get deeper in this one that would be really appreciated. Hereunder are the only pictures so far. I hope to get a movement shot soon Thank you! Jeremie
I vote for total fake. The case number alone is a huge red flag as I learned myself recently. Check here: https://omegaforums.net/threads/fake-mil-issued-sm-300.46877/#post-558279 Cheers, Max
Thanks guys for saving some of my time here I'm going to report it hoping the platform will delete it.
All the tells are there: - no box around the date window - stubbies extend from the hour markers to the edge - closed 9 At the very least, the dial is fake. This makes me suspicious about the whole watch. Once you get more pics from the back, check if the A in waterproof on the back has a flat top (it should do).
And a typical fake bezel... not included in my list: https://omegaforums.net/threads/seamaster-300-bezels.36357/
Who do you suppose makes these vintage fakes? It must be very specialized, hard work. Is it individual forgers, or is it a whole industry like fake contemporary high end watches?
It's definitely a thriving blackmarket, they're all made in south east Asia as far as anyone can tell. The so called Vietnam cases like on this one aren't in production any more, and no fake vintage Seamaster 300 sold now will house a genuine movement, which has stemmed the flow a little but there are still lots in circulation unfortunately. The watch wouldn't have originally been supplied with the "aged" hands and dial, that's pure DIY on behalf of the seller.
