In this case the Shill bidder didn't affect the outcome, because they were set for $2700, and two other buyers were willing to pay over $3K

From the photos in my phone it looks like a nice watch going for a lower than market price.

A 14 feedback seller from Argentina though, a lot of legit guys would be avoiding that one to begin with. I've no problem buying from South America if its a known guy, or a guy with a lot of feedback or a cheap watch, but an expensive watch from an unknown guy with almost no feedback is a bit too much.

I think Larry was correct, and there was a shill, but in the end it did not make any difference as there were two other competing bidders - and as usual, the auction was decided in the last 10 seconds by sniper software ;)

I was told it was a $2,500 watch, and the shill's high bid was $2,700, but two buyers wanted it more.

larry, shill bidders are all over the planet. auctionhouses do that too..... it does not make sense, to report everything here on the vintage omega forum, you could NOT get for low prices. were you bidding on that one? bidding for US$ 2500? if I can not buy for the prices, I`ve set in my mind, why let the world know about it? the internet is full of useless comments anyway; why add more? if you want something and need more infos, try to PM members here or on different fora. kind regards. achim

I was just warning people at the end of the auction that it looked like they might be battling a ghost if they jumped in to bid on the watch.

In my case I didn't want to buy from a low feedback seller in Argentina, and I thought the dial looked a little dark for my tastes (may have just been the photos). Dablitzer had a much nicer looking Connie Pie Pan the other day, that sold for a little over $2500 that I would have jumped on but someone beat me to it.

But I did end up buying a 1993 Rolex Explorer II, a 2003 Seamaster Pro for my son, and a pair of 1962 Seamaster vintage dress watches in the past 24 hours or so, which took me out of the market for this watch today.

But shill bidders tick me off, and if I see one why not expose the auction and seller?

    Watchyouwant,

I understand where you're coming from. Threads on shill bidding are somewhat common, but this site should serve as a community where likeminded people can let off steam and share pain and happiness, lucky finds and frustrating losses.

I think Larry has a right to share his pains on site, at least occasionally.

I did ask in my previous "shill thread" whether we could have just one thread dedicated to outing all of the eBay sellers who use a shill bidder. This would be preferable to me to posting a new thread each time. Nothing came of it, nobody cared a few days ago. Can we donate to the forum to keep their storage and bandwidth high?

In this case I don't have a horse in this race, so no pain for me, I just wanted to warn others before they got sucked in.
