Hello all. My wifes grandpa passed away bout a year ago. While going through his belongings after his death no one wanted the watch so i took it. I recently discoverd from a friend its a good make watch. See pics below. I found it today again. Now i need to find someone that can put in a new battery and do some maintenance. Gladd to have the watch!!! Seems to be a Constellation caliber 1346? Greetings from South Africa 14772357077141621041961.jpg

Stephen, you are the perfect new member. You set an avatar picture, you posted pictures of your watch, and you didn't even ask about the value of it so you could sell it on eBay. I wish all future n00bies are like you. I'm even willing to overlook the fact that the watch is battery powered! ;)

    Welcome to ΩF.

I have a good friend that collects watches as a hobby. Will speak to him at work tomorrow and ask for a recommendation for service

Yes, nearly all quartz regulated watches are powered by a battery. As long as the battery inside it didn't leak, you should be fine. You might want to take it to a local watchmaker and have them clean & lubricate the analog portion of the internals that makes the hands move.

I gave you your first Like too.

And what's more, the title of the thread "another inherited watch" clearly reveals Stephen took the time to read other threads before posting !
Welcome - and another like !

Was reading a post of a gentleman in Germany that also posted today about a timepiece he inherited from his grandfather. Thought it was crazy. Hehe.

Even a quartz Omega is a great quality watch to inherit. It's a hassle free watch after you change battery every 2-3 years and get some service done for the first time. It'll not need service as often as a mechanical watch does. Time keeping too will be excellent.

Thanks Pun. The story behind the watch i found today is a bit shocking. But so glad i have it. I also got an 1985 Fiat 128 that was of no interest to the family at that time. So very happy to remember granpa. Not not only driving the vehicle but also when i look at the time...

If the pink squirrel is willing to overlook batteries he must be properly impressed!

So you've a vintage car also with a vintage Omega watch!! I feel good to read that you're happy to remember your grandpa. This human race goes like this in an ideal way. Hope you enjoy both for the years to come and remember gandpa fondly.

I'm sorry for your loss, Stephen. By getting the watch serviced, wearing it and driving the Fiat he will be remembered well! Welcome to the forum

Maybe this should be stickied as an example for n00bs?
