Hi guys, Another hooded Seamaster has appeared on the Bay: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/17091555...AX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_500wt_1128Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network (and they post to Australia) Quite like it (although not as much as the black ones), but have no idea about the dial. There is a light patina, which is nice, and I can't see any obvious redial flags? Views Daniel
That's a 1952/53 watch, yet is has the wider & more rounded curved S from later fonts. Dipping r at the end too. For all the water damage on the rotor (the edge is green) and the pitting on the case you'd think the dial would be shot, yet it's in half decent condition. Also, the 2767 shown on the caseback corresponds to a regular lug style, not a hooded lug. I'd wait for more opinions but there's several things not correct for that era about the watch. Might be a franken.
Yes, that's a different S and one that's acceptable pre-1960 on non-XVI models. How can you explain the caseback reference number though?
The 2767 on The Vintage Database has a dial very much like the one on the Bay and it has the correct calibre for the 2767, so maybe the dial, case back and movement are from one watch and the case from another? Thanks for the advise on the greenish tinge on the movement, hadn't seen that. Will hold off for now!
I'd like to have a close up on that font to be sure but I can see that S looks different from the new S
Okay, so we're sure the caseback and crown are wrong. Popular opinion (of Kyle and Hoi) says the dial may be correct for that movement - which I'll defer to gladly. Regardless, passing this one up is a wise decision unless it goes dirt cheap.
I think $250-350 would be an ok deal. Finding a crown shouldn't be hard, but not so sure about the caseback.
Another one, but a definite redial Omega Seamaster v. 1962, Kal 500, seltenes Gehäuse, schw. Original-Zifferblatt !: http://bit.ly/Rh8ZbX
