Like many others I have become the proud owner of a Longines watch, and like many have no idea what it is I have inherited. My only interest is in the realm of insurance, and of course curiosity.

Based on others posts, I have tried to include all the necessary photos, but I am as yet not willing or brave enough to attempt to remove the back. How does it remove? Screw off or lever? How to do this without damaging the case?

So the photos I have taken as best I can. In case it is not clear there is the Longines names on the winder and I found the stamps - DS&S 9.375 on the clasp. From a quick internet search it seems there should be another letter there? I did find a tiny stamp on the side of the clasp, but it is beyond the capability of my phone to take a photo of it - I am assuming it is 2 stamps?

DS&S I believe we’re a UK based case maker and that the 9.375 relates to the Gold Karat of the watch.

Any advice or suggestions of what and of what age this watch is would be great fully received - even if it is a man’s or a ladies watch….

    Thanks in advance.

Looks like a nice piece, but probably difficult to identify without seeing the inside. As you noted, the bracelet is 9K gold, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the watch case has the same gold content. The case will have its own stamp and/or hallmark somewhere. The snap-on back can be removed by inserting a thin knife blade between the case-back and mid-case where you see a gap. It will pop off.

"9 375" means 9K solid gold, which is 37.5% fine (9/24). The "DS&S" refers to David Shackman & Sons in the UK.

You can find more information and pictures of a similar watch here:

Yours has an integrated bracelet option, which is a common upgrade in the 1960's. IMO, your example came from the retailer with the gold bracelet.

There is a post on this board of another Shackman made bracelet with a similar hallmark and logo:
