Here is another project I purchased a while back. Really nice size 198.029 on a excellent 1162 bracelet. Watch is in great overall condition, but the main reason its not getting any wrist time is the worn bezel. This is from an era in Omega history where they were trying to cut costs and they skimped on things like doing the the bezels right. The scale was printed and over the years wore off. If anyone has a lead on where to find a correct bezel, please let me know. FWIW - O.Frei or Omega do not have the correct bezel any longer

 

...polish it and erase it completely?...and be happy?...

This could be one way to go. Would need someone who could do this like the original.

 

I think laser engraving may work.
A supplier to my company is using it on stainless steel signs. Looks great. Suggest you ask some one locally.
If all fails I have one slightly better than yours as a backup.

 

It also works on mesh!

I feel your pain. Tried to restore old Omega's multiple times but getting replacement parts is really hard. Its a shame because those old Omega's deserve to be in good condition. Good luck on your search.
