another eBay shipping rant (slightly positive.)

Thought about commenting in the the active thread regarding the lost return shipment.

Thought I might share some of my experience dealing with eBay this morning.

I found a seller offering at a great price (12EU each) for 3 Extremely Scarce (Rare) Landeron 48 piano wire flyback springs. Which is great as I have three 48 watches with lost springs. Downside is the seller wants 50 Euros for shipping, which, while excessive, is understandable as this currently more than the price of a tank of gas.

Unfortunatly when I clicked the checkout the eBay automation wants to bill me 150EU for shipping. The seller in a DM prior to my purchase did state they would combine shipping and send an invoice.

Surprisingly when I went to send a copy of this correspondence to eBay Customer service. There was an option to get a call back in less than one minute. I decided to try this, and did get a rather pleasant person, who was quite helpful.

Seems there is a hidden button in the checkout which states 'request invoice.' Unfortunately this is also automated and generates an error. Which she was most interested in.

Of course, this is still not completely resolved. The next step is for the seller to re-issue the invoice, which is why this is a rant. Ideally this should be resolved by eBay and I should not have to wait for the seller.

When she asked me for any other concerns, I shared the story in general terms about poor feedback and opinions I was seeing online regarding the eBay watch authentication services and the poor state of the shipping processes. How a 'online friend,' was targeted by someone receiving the returned package containing the valuable watch from the authenticator as a possible organized scam. My helpful phone person, seemed quite interested in this story and said that she would certainly pass this on to her supervisor.

I am really surprised that eBay has telephone, customer support. I thought the system was completely automated.

Will be interesting to see what happens.

Edit: I got this message so I clicled the contact us which took me to a loop of chatbots.

I did hear back from the seller who indicates they will send the corrected invoice monday.

All this for what look like three bent paperclips.

Good reminder that people make processes so any process will have flaws.

My other take away was that between the pipe organs and flyback springs, you keep pretty busy. 😀

I should probably be working on Pipe organ electronics... The watch parts are larger than some of the surface mount compontents I work with like a resistor that measures .8 x .5 mm that is marked 805. The landeron hands are 130/185 which is 1.3 mm and 1.85 mm holes.

I have enough projects to keep busy for 500 years. One of which was to make a machine that could replicate the parts for these watches. Then I found that the parts are somewhat available online.

At least eBay is making the effort. It is easy to get caught up in the moment. The waiting for the shipping is the worst part. I wanted it two days ago, today I have another shiny to distract me.
