You know, Mr. Turler must have had an awesome collection of vintage watches. Too bad he personalized the dials and spoiled it for many of us. :p

Ha! My father, when he was a child, thought similar things about all the shops owned by Mr Kosher!

I think it is going to be a long, long march before I can reach a factory-original Omega Seamaster diver 300m model reference 166.024 (big triangle with date). Even a set of hands that are found to be re-lumed will kill my interest. Alternatively, a factory original 120m model reference 166.073 is next on the list. Though this diver watch is not as desirable as the 300m, yet there is nothing on the market, for some while already.

Do you think I should go for this Omega Constellation Calendar Grand Luxe instead, and what do you think will the level of interest be for it, say in five years' time, for this Grand Luxe compared to the 300m or even the 120m?

    Thank-you.

With these, the gold value will always underwrite the value of these pieces.

Objectively, what in a SM300 makes it valuable? No gold. No silver. Just demand/fashion. I'd back gold any day.

Your advice is sound and it is making me realize your line of reasoning is definitely very logic. At this time, there is a vacuum in my head. You are filling it up with some substance. Yes, demand/fashion.

I think, the price of this Grand Luxe will be more or less the same with a top-condition 300m. I shall give it a serious think. Meanwhile, I hope some other respectable fellow members will also help to fill-up the vacuum. I appreciate your kind advice.

    Thank-you.

My advice isn't free. It just costs a Grand Luxe.....

Just because my advice is sound, doesn't mean you should follow it. We are primarily collectors, not investors! Go for what you like!

Regarding payment, please do not worry. When I get even with the Rogue Sydney Real Estate Agent, please send me your bill and I shall gladly attend to it, immediately. For the time being credit facilities, please

Of course, we are collectors and most of the time, we try to follow the foot-step of the enthusiasts and experts here. As for me, I would usually go after a pretty face (dial), a lovely body (case) and possibly beautiful legs (lugs). In this instance the Grand Luxe has all three. Next and most importantly, I want something God send and not one that has undergone some form of surgery. Only then, I will be happy.

    Thank-you.

That is one stiff buyers premium.

It's 25%, about the same as other major auction houses like Christie's, Sotheby's, etc.

That swanky hotel and all the bandwidth costs a lot!

PS - That's why I don't complain too much about eBay. On smaller items they end up getting about 25%, but it's all from the seller. The big boys get it from both ends of the deal. Although I understand that if you consign a lot or buy a lot, you can negotiate a lower premium.

    Ulackpiepan

No really, it has to be an early brick bracelet stepped pie-pan for me, not a dome dial.

Yeah Steve - you big domey. ::bleh::

You would think they'd clean it up just a little. Tarnish on the bezel, links all mussed up...... [IMG][IMG]

Why, do you really want to pay more for this?

It's like a coconut, you have to peel away the husk to get at the sweet meat of the nut inside. :p

    Good luck to all,

I'm sorry, but I chortled my pepsi upon reading "sweet meat of the nut"
