A Queensland legend, they should make a statue down there in the valley to commemorate him

Yes let's celebrate a convicted criminal. I am sure the people he stole from loved him. I know, he was a bit of a lad, so that makes it ok.

At least the Australians aren't trying to elect him President...::rimshot::

Well, he is dead, so it would depend on the political credentials of the person propping him up Weekend at Bernie's style.

But also, I don't think he would beat the beloved incumbent Prime Minister, Andy.

Mea culpa. 😬

I know, I didn't want to, but it was just hanging there ripe for the picking.

Edit: you get the next one for free. 😁

He did do his time and behaved for the last few decades of his life so that’s about all one can ask of the bloke. We also do celebrate a lot of violent criminals here, from Ned Kelly to Captain Moonlight, to the majority of NRL players so this guy’s non violent shenanigans aren’t a big deal.

All well and good, but to talk about him as a legend and someone who deserves a statue. Really?

There’s a memorial urinal trough to a Chemistry teacher who used to teach his boys how to make beer prior to schoolies week at a school in this town, and as Olympics host for 2032 the mascot being demanded by the people of Brisbane is the Bin Chicken.

We have a constitutional right to take the piss in this country.

Down in Melbourne there’s a plaque on a planter box where Barnaby Joyce fell over drunk one night.

I don't think anyone would seriously petition for a statue to be erected (or limped, in his case) - it's just the Aussie humour to treat him as a faux legend, but really if you want to be serious for a moment, it's the video and the moment that is the legend, not so much the man. I bet 99/100 Aussies don't even know his name or a single other thing about him. In fact, for most of this meme's time in pop culture, literally nobody knew his name. The video has been around for decades but he was only identified in the last five years. Prior to that, it was just as iconic when everyone incorrectly thought he was some Hungarian chess player.

The man has died, but the moment had already been solidified in culture as a display of vintage Aussie humour and spirit. It's absurd, he makes a petty arrest look shakespearean. It's fun, that's all.

Actually being dead would be a bonus for election to high office.....at least he'd keep his mouth shut, and couldn't do anymore damage, unlike any living politician
