·A question I get from time to time:
Anno 2025... is there anything left to be researched about Omega watches ?
☕
The answer is obvious when You're on a forum where Omega fans are asking "How many Straight Writing Speedmaster were produced?"
☕
There's even a topic #AskOmega
☕
And some of us are left with some burning questions in their pockets...
Let me give an example ... and as a GOM - Grumpy Old Man a final (boring) post here on the forum...
1975 Apollo-Soyuz Test Project saw a record of 11 Omega Speedmaster chronographs simultaneously flown-in-space!
AFAIK, what the NASA photos clearly show (and Stafford made sure to photograph all watches in detail), the three NASA astronauts each wore two 321 versions (4X 105.012 + 2X 145.012) while the two cosmonauts each wore two 861 versions (4X 145.022).
Moreover, it was always mentioned that cosmonaut Alexei Leonov carried a third watch onboard ASTP, without being specified if this was an Omega Speedmaster or an Omega flightmaster!?
I'm the first to realise this is nerdy/esotric research but I wonder if the Preference Kit contents paperwork listed this 3rd watch in detail so we finally get the answer which was that (elusive) 11th wrist watcfh worn 50 years ago !

Edit: 1975 ASTP 11 Omega watches in space
Contrary to what I have been told by Omega Heritage in 2015 (40 years ASTP)
More & more echoes/messages reaching me stating that Alexei Leonov's third watch was an Omega flightmaster pilot watch.
It looks like this flightmaster was sold at auction by Sotheby's in 1996... Anyone has a reference (lot number 189 : price achieved)?

I know that the Apollo XI case back is much rarer than the Flight Qualifed case back, but I'm just curious if anyone knows the approximate number of each that were produced. Thanks.

A tribute post to all those forum-members who investigated particular details about specific Speedmaster versions (e.g. Apollo-Soyuz or LCDspeedmaster), Speedmaster details, documentation...
