Oh c'mon man don't rain on my parade lol. I'm hoping to finally scoop one up when my wife visits NYC in a couple of months!!!

Still have a chance to see Hugh Jackman in The Music Man. There until Jan 01. 👍

All about appearances....
And I suspect a majority of it is just that, an appearance with no real substance.
All fur coat and no knickers😁

I've loved watches since I was 8 years old and bought pocket watches at the local drug store for a dollar. Nothing that anyone else does effects what I chose to do in terms of watches. I buy what I like to wear, plain and simple. They are all amazing little works of art...including the dollar pocket watches. All I want to do...as with my cat and dog...is make sure they find a good home when my own time passes.

Same here. It is just unfortunate for me and probably some others that what we like is part of this bubble.
If prices on a Polar 16570 where still where they were 3-4 years ago, I'd probably be wearing one at this very moment.

What you said about the cost of rebar hit home, although I haven't seen declining prices (yet).

We're pretty fortunate if our main concern is the cost of watches going up. Construction material continues to rise after tripling, or more. Food, housing, Germany talking about mandatory blackouts this Winter (haven't heard about other parts of Europe.)

I, like everyone else, worries for our kids.

Exactly. As much as I don't feel like others' tastes influence my own much, they do influence the market and that affects what I'm able to buy and wear.

And although I don't like things just because they're popular and I want to do what the seemingly wealthy (or cool, or young, or whatever) guys are doing, what comes across my eyes is undeniably influenced by them (at least it was early on until I found and joined this forum). I'm still new and learning, though, and I do get a good bit joy when I discover a watch that's inexpensive and less popular but still very interesting to me.

I'd rather wear a Damasko or Tutima than overpay for a "hot" Swiss watch - regardless of the ability to flip it for more money.

Gateway watch for a 20year old working at Starbucks….
Gateway profits for a EBay entrepreneur…

I dont understand how you could keep a straight face telling your clients these are works of art and then buy excess "stock" and destroy it like it was wheat! The sight of an AD now sickens me! But i dont blame anybody. We are probably part responsible for allowing the falseness spread through the dink n such

Bit like all of the collectors that became small time dealers here that eventually were banned…Greed and $$
Look at all the YouTube dealers that turn bad… make a name, money rolls in and then it’s all about the money and not the watches.

Hey now there is 20yo YouTube guru’s telling people what watches are investments and crypto is the future…. Live from their bedrooms at Mum and Dads place 😁

When are we going to talk about the high cost of El Primeros?!!

D*** influencers. 😁 Made the mistake of looking at those 📖 and now I've been influenced.

Based on my high roller status and not getting the Ed White or the Snoopy3, I think my bankroll will be safe.

Honestly, it's not as much fun as finding a complete vintage watch covered in grime.

Still, who doesn't enjoy a good surprise?

This article feels about a year late to the party. Only insight I see is at the end about marketing coming down. With interest rates going up there is going to be some serious pain for these dealers.
