an 8900 Planet Ocean mystery

So my buddy has an 8900-series Planet Ocean with the orange rubber bezel. That reference should be 215.30.44.21.01.002 (denoted by the '002). However, it was only very recently pointed out to him that his 12-6-9 numerals aren't orange, but silver, as though his reference were 215.30.44.21.01.001 (but that reference has the Liquid Metal bezel). And neither of us can find the reference for this particular combo - did it ever exist at the time of launch? Watch was ordered directly from an AD (he actually spent a few months on a waiting list before one came from the factory), but it has us wondering if there was a bezel mixup at some point and he has a hybrid? Or was this a combination that's no longer available directly from Omega?

AFAIK it was never offered in that combo.

Since your buddy purchased the watch from an AD, what is the reference number listed on the cards and the hang tag?

It seems like this was a bezel mix-up or somebody swapped it.

The reference on the card is 215.32.44.21.01.001 (orange bezel, orange numerals, but rubber strap).

It seems like this was a bezel mix-up or somebody swapped it.

...yeah, really starting to look like that. Also, seems like the cards/pictograms might have gotten mixed up... Maybe a double-mistake from the factory?

...oh, and upon further scrutiny, the serial on the case & movement match the serial on the warranty cards, so it definitely seems like a bezel or dial mixup.

Based on the serial number you provided, the watch is ref: 21532442101001.

This is an orange bezel with orange numerals on the dial. So it's the dial that has been changed at some point, or installed in error somehow. No idea how this came to be, but it's not right based on the serial number.

Always the most helpful guy on this, or any other forum. Thanks!

But I would check it out with whomever it was purchased from because in the event a service is needed this can be seen as a frankenstien and Omega will not touch it due to the reference being altered. So I would just do some investigating and find out if it was the AD trying to make a sale happen or if it was an accident on Omega's behalf. But watch looks great though!

That’s a very good point. I’d get it sorted ASAP.

Yeah, I don't think I'd change that dial for the correct one.

In fairness this post predates the Instagram post.

Personally I prefer this configuration.
