Waddya wanna know? I have excellent references on Elgin, and you might want to check out Wayne Schlitt’s excellent website on the brand.

You might direct any questions you have about American pocket watches to @Mad Dog to see if he really knows more about American pocket watches than than a Canadian, or anyone else for that matter! What does a person’s citizenship have to do with matters such as this, anyway?

😁 😁 😁
@Mad Dog you big knucklehead... GM’s F bodies were made in Canada!

so that would make us the experts.

as punishment you are not allowed to wear your 950 Hamilton for a whole week.

that would really bother me if I were lucky enough to own one so I figure I’m being pretty rough on you...

eh!

@Mad Dog drives Fords. What in H_ _ l would he know about Camaros, anyway? He owns two Hamilton pocket watches, and a Breitling. What in H _ _ l would he know about Elgins, anyway? Open mouth, insert foot! Anyway, in reply to a PM from @Cosmopak, I replied with the answer to the question he had, that @Mad Dog wouldn’t have been able to answer, anyway. So much for his “expertise”!

I'm no MadDog, but what's your question? I'm more of a Hamilton guy but I do have some experience with Elgins.

@Cosmopak was looking at acquiring an outstanding Elgin Convertible, but was comparing the dial on the subject watch with another Elgin offered for sale on the Internet. He was confused by differences in the lettering and the fonts on the two dials. The watches are both about 130 years old, and the dials are vitreous enamel, and were hand decorated. He was concerned the one he is considering had a refinished dial. I assured him it could not have been a refinished dial. The differences between the two dials were because they were done by hand. I think he is reassured. @Cosmopak will hopefully forgive me for posting this on the MB.

That’s good to hear, I was just going to ask if anyone remembered who called this meeting

Has no-one other than me noticed @Mad Dog has made himself scarce since his only post in this thread? I suspect me feels sufficiently chastised, and is wishing he’d kept his mouth shut. :whipped:

Ahh, yeah there is always a little variation in those old hand painted dials.
