amazing dialed omega chronometer i would like to buy this watch - didnt buy yet because i dont want to make a mistake. im quite concerned. did this dial ever exist?
Look at the close up of the star. It looks like the outline of a 5-pointed star around it. Also, Chronometer doesn't appear to be parallel to Omega.
Putting aside the very problematic dial for the moment, Do you have pictures of the inner case back and movement?
Other than the Star of David being printed where someone scraped off what was there before, nothing about this looks Kosher. ;-)
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the Omega logo and the radial numerals are original. The rest looks like it was printed over sometime later. Whether this was done by the retailer on the dial or is a total fabrication, I don't know. What I also don't know is whether this watch has the higher grade chronometer movement. It's certainly possible, but without seeing inside the caseback, we can't say. The crown is certainly an incorrect replacement. Taken as a whole, the package makes me more than a bit nervous. gatorcpa
IMHO the "dial base" is legit, I have seen this dial design before but: star and "chronometer" have been printed later, and I am pretty sure the numbers 13 - 23 have been added later too - I have seen them in red, but not in blue on this type of dial.
Not an RG regulator. My guess is that the dial is a fantasy. Unless priced as a parts watch, this is not a good investment. gatorcpa
An additional note: have a close look on the star: this one is black and has 6 points wheras the original one should have 5 points and is red The area around the star indicates that the original red star was removed to be replaced with this wrong black star As Mike stated it is a real waste of a nice original dial - and this dial type is scarce!
