Am I the only one that's not into chronograph?

For some reason I just can't get into chronograph watches. None of them really interests me. I have no desire to own one either. Am I the only one here?

I was there once. Now 4 of the last 5 watches I have purchased were chronographs. I couldn't see any need of it.....now I time everything. Give it time, you will come around also.

No. I have only one and I don't wear it that often. Resist conformity and groupthink ;)

I've owned a few chronographs, but they're certainly not the center of my watch universe. There's only one currently in my collection: a Breitling Chrono Cockpit. It was a gift from my wife.

Unless you're an El Primero collector. That's a noble pursuit.

I'll see your lack of a date window and raise you no second hand.

That’s part of the fun of my Panerai. No second hand. It makes me less anxious. Always checking a watch to see how far ahead or behind it is gives me stress.

    There is peace in Oblivion:)

Ignorance is bliss. I'm hoping to take the blue pill soon and forget all about this rabbit hole of a hobby.

I think tastes evolve. If you have them, keep them just in case you develop a liking. Right now I'm in the "36mm white/silver" and "non-Speedmaster vintage Omega chrono" phase. One of these coming in.. with bracelet and I'm all giddy

Plated.. beggars can't be choosers in the "case" of this watch. In fact its supposed to be non-running but the case looks to be in terrific shape (pix is not of the actual watch, listing pix disappeared unfortunately), so a few days before it arrives and a few months at the watchmaker before I can even put it on my wrist. I hope it pans out. This and the non-running Ulysse Nardin were both risky bets..

From the time I was a kid, I’ve always seen the utility/advantage of having a timer on my wrist. I wanted a chronograph from before I was ten. Until I was an adult, a stopwatch had to do.

I use the chronograph function multiple times a day and miss it when I’m not wearing one. How long have I been waiting in line at the bank? How much longer cooking? How long has it been since he said he’d call me back? Etc, etc.

Wearing a tool chronograph is akin to my carrying a Swiss Army knife, which I have done since I was eight years old. I’ve carried this particular one for over thirty years. Occasionally, I clean and lubricate it.

I feel naked without it, like when I have to fly.

I do agree about date windows. As much as I want to know the day of the month, I think most date windows spoil their watch faces. Constellations without date windows seem so much more attractive to my eye. Moonphase Speedmasters have date dials, which, while harder to read, are much more in keeping with typical watch faces.

Even though the dial is totally ruined by the stupid date window?

That’s CRAZY you have been able to keep the knife that long! I don’t think I have been able to hold on to one more than 5 years! I always leave it on my key ring so I forget about it when I’m at the airport or going to a sporting event.
My current one has a pen and a flashlight in place of the toothpick and tweezers.

Honestly I use the chrono. maybe a couple of times a month. But at least it’s there when I need it! Assuming I’m wearing one...

Back in the old country in my misspent youth, I used to carry a "Champ" all the time, because yes sometimes you would be in a situation where you had to impromptu cut wood, file off a padlock, or open up a PC tower case. Top left is a Champ where I customized and removed some layers (like the saw and metal file)

Nowadays, I only need a blade and scissors (to open up Amazon packages), a pen and flashlight. Actually now even the flashlight is redundant because you can use your phone (middle left)

I would have killed to have the Swisstool (lower right) back in the day. But this one, like swiss watches, are more geared towards being ornamental. I mean look at that shiny slippery grip! And everything slips off those polished driver heads

The blue pill that you speak of is quite a bit different today than the ones going around in our younger years. If you took one of today's blue pills, you might get stuck in that rabbit hole for awhile.:D

Uh oh. I didn’t mean to hijack the thread. But...

So, this is the Swiss Army knife that came with the Aprillia Mille RSVR I used to own. The logos have worn off, but I carried this for a few years when I rode every day. Very heavy and large.

I can’t believe I couldn’t find a picture of my motorcycle in my old photo files. So, here’s a stock photo of same year

Scary bike. If I’d owned it long enough, I would have killed myself on it.
But, my personal land speed record was set on that bike. 155 in the Nevada desert.:rolleyes:
