So let's say, hypothetically, that I post a question about the value of this watch:

    IMG_5385-1.jpg
    IMG_5387-1.jpg

It's been redone at the JLC factory in Le Sentier, and essentially performs like new. How much would a 29mm 18k solid red gold JLC watch from 1946 be worth including the service box from the factory? It was over $2000 to have the restoration done, and it cost me around $700 to buy it initially.

Now, would it affect your estimation if I said I was thinking of selling it?

What if I said I was only asking for insurance purposes, and planned on giving it to my wife?

Of course, this is all purely speculation.... unless somebody PMs me with a nice offer.

    ;) :p :whistling:

    Insurance 4.5k

Unknown territory for a sales price...

    But you know this.

    Stunning piece

Maybe a rich woman with taste will come along and make a decent offer but to be honest 29mm is a bit small for even a woman these days. Your wrist model needs Veet by the way

Honest thoughts ... your $700 initial purchase price was a bargain. To put $2000 into a restoration was probably close to madness. That's the sort of investment you make in a watch like this because you're never going to part with it and love it without question. We all know how long small watches sit around in the store. When you add to the fact that it's small a price tag well into four figures then no matter how pretty it is, it's going to become an "old friend" (stock that never shifts).

Where do you need to price it? $3500. What's the replacement value for insurance? 25% on top of that. Maybe half as much again. Would I pay that much for it? Ha ... you need to ask?

Just hypothetically, you will need a professional watch/jewelry appraiser to set a value for this watch. Also hypothetically you would need a separate jewelry insurance rider for the item to possibly get the full appraised value if lost or stolen.
Otherwise the insurance value will be $700 at best if there is a hypothetical
    receipt.

Another sleazy attempt to circumvent the OF sales rules.

    Reported.

    Pratts! Will I B******S!!! :p

Actually, if I were to sell it (hypothetically that is) I'd have to ask price WAY lower than it's "worth".... but that's exactly what I do, isn't it? :taunt: ;) sneaky2.gif

It's a gorgeous little watch, but the sad reality is that the only way you would ever recoup your investment is to insure that puppy for $3,000 and then suffer a loss in a terrible boating accident. Something along the lines of...While I was reeling in large stripper and a spring pin fatigued and the watch went into the drink.

On the other hand, my wifely-unit would love that watch, but would be most reluctant to pay you what you have in it. She might go $1,000 but that would be the top.

    @ulackfocus , You're clearly trolling, and it's either a.) fake, or b.) stolen.

I do have a thought running, well jogging ...maybe meandering, around my mind ...

obviously the watch has some age, but the print is new ... so, is it a "Yaeger" or do you call it a jzeejzee lecoot?
