Coming from one of the few places in the world that is native habitat to both gators and crocs...
1. I don't see any ethical problem with watchbands made from either. After all, these are farm animals, raised for the hides and meat. No different than cattle.
2. The main difference between them is that crocodiles are so mean, the alligators are scared of them.
In the wild, the crocs are truly endangered species, while there isn't a body of water larger than a puddle that isn't part of an alligator's territory. We consider them nuisances. Years ago, when an alligator was captured, they relocated them to the Everglades. Now they just become, well, watchbands.
