Yes RIP Alexei Leonov - Amazing and very brave / noble man. I just watched Spacewalk again in tribute which as a film knocks the spots off first man IMHO. As an Omega fan I am also glad that old Leonov made up for lost wrist time on the Apollo- Soyuz mission as well :0)

Also anyone know why the Russians needs an inflatable airlock for early spacewalks but the Americans just opened the capsule door?

Yes rip Alexei. A very brave man. I listened to an interview with him a couple of months ago where he was describing how he partially depressurised his space suit so he could get back into the capsule. He didnt tell anyone on the ground what was going on because he figured that there was nothing they could do to help!
I dont think its ever been confirmed that he wore his Strela watch outside his suit. You certainly cant see it in the film I've seen.

The Voskhod spacecraft carrying two cosmonauts in their bulky Berkut spacesuit was very cramped so an inflatable airlock allowed more room for a clean exit. In both Voskhod II and Gemini IV spacewalk footage it's interesting to see how the modus operandi planned shooting TV images from different viewpoints... an important PR item on their checklists.
Voskhod II initiated the return to Earth just a few seconds too late but ended up to land 400 kilometers beyond the planned landing site and in this way we got those Search & Rescue TV footage of the crew being recovered wearing their winter pilot jackets and white dial Strela "Arrow" wristwatches... Here's Alexei Leonov wearing one of three 861 Speedmaster chronographs he wore on ASTP in July 1975...
