I have been posting some infos about the LCD Speedmasters some weeks ago, including this rare prototype watch made for NASA Shuttle pilots back in 1979. Now want to move to something else and keep my collection dynamic. I am looking for a trade (up or down, both possible - I am open for discussions). The watch is EXACTLY the same than the pair (numbers 16 and 19) sold at Christie's in december 2015. The Prototype is in an exceptional conservation condition. With extract from Omega Archives obviously mentioning the NASA story as well as the number 7 engraved on the caseback. Will also be provided a copy of the original invoice to Omega USA back in 1979, mentioning « For NASA Shuttle pilots ». Some additional Infos about what makes that prototype different from the standard production model : - unique dial, lighter than the standard production model, no ‘light’ word on it - unique caseback engraved 1621 (calibre 1621, prototype only) inside - the case is thicker to host the thicker cal 1621 (because of the beta light) - the pushers are wider than the standard production model Nothing is common to another watch, hence the 20 were really part of a prototype batch, nothing to do with the regular 186.0004 LCD Speedy. Some of the watches I am looking for to bring some trade ideas on the table : Omega Speedmaster 105.002 / 2998 Omega Speedmaster Transitional 145.022-68 B&P Omega Speedmaster Moonphase 345.0809 B&P Omega Speedmaster Gold 1980s BA 345.0802 Omega Flightmaster 910/911 B&P Zénith El Primero A386 Zénith El Primero A3818 Thanks to OF for the space.
Interesting topic, and great history but however I have never seen this LCD prototype on any time-period NASA photos
Not surprising since they have qualified but never really used according to the infos I got from Omega. Don’t know how to interprete your message @SpeedyPhill
