I have been posting some infos about the LCD Speedmasters a month ago, including this rare prototype watch made for NASA Shuttle pilots back in 1979. Since I have two of them, it might be a good opportunity to allow another fellow OF member to own a true piece of history and for me to get something interesting to complete my own collection in exchange. I am NOT looking to sell. I am looking for a trade (straight or not, money can be added both ways). Am looking for a vintage Speedmaster, something special, box and papers are always a plus. The Prototype is in an exceptional conservation condition. With a copy of the original invoice to Omega USA back in 1979, mentioning « For NASA Shuttle pilots ». The watch is located in a bank safe in Switzerland. If you are interested, feel free to shoot me a PM and let’s discuss.
Thanks @Horologyhusky Let’s see what might be offered for trade I certainly won’t be sad if it finally had to stay with me
Maybe some additional Infos about what makes that prototype different from the standard production model : - unique dial, lighter than the standard production model, no ‘light’ word on it - unique caseback engraved 1621 (calibre 1621, prototype only) inside - the case is thicker to host the thicker cal 1621 (because of the beta light) - the pushers are wider than the standard production model Nothing is common to another watch, hence the 20 were really part of a prototype batch.
That's quite a stunner for sure... I don't have anything to trade, unfortunately! Care to explain how you came to acquire these two (!) pieces?!? a+ Paul
Sorry to read that, Paul. Not in details. what did you expect? Collectors refocus their collections - exactly like I do - and some pieces become out of scope. A matter of being at the right time at the right place. Still, I can tell you they haven’t been acquired together.
I had low expectations... but he who never throws the ball never knows if he's going to score, eh?!? GLWS! That's lovely
Got some PMs but no matches as per today. Your chance to get a piece of history. Don’t be shy, let me know what you could imagine to part with.
