Blanton's the best for the bucks. George Dickel ain't Bourbon. It's Tennessee Sour Mash like Jack Daniels.
I quit Jack in the late 80's when they went to 86 proof. Dickel Black stayed at 90 proof so I switched ;-)

Anybody ever try Knob Creek? It's pretty good for the money.

I tried Buffalo Trace Bourbon per a friend's recommendation and now keep it stocked at my home at all times. At $25 a bottle, I think it's the best bourbon for the money. Made by the same folks that make Pappy Van Winkle, which I hear is excellent.

Buffalo Trace is made by the same good people that make Blanton's, only 1/2 the price of Blanton's ;-)
Pappy Van Winkle is another story. Maybe the most expensive, even at their entry level, most sought after, and most difficult to obtain.
I was gifted a bottle of 12 yr. old and "Oh Baby". I'm told that the best for the bucks is the 15yr. old. I've been on 2 waiting lists for almost a year. No cigar - yet ;-(
Long time collectors sell their 23 yr. old Pappy around the holidays for $1,500.+ and 750ml. bottle, and you better buy when they show-up!

I like pretty much anything from Isaly. I am particularly a fan of Laphroaig, but I have many from this island and they are all good. Love the smoke and peat!

For Bourbon I am not a huge fan, but I do have Woodford Reserve on hand for those who like it and when I am in the mood, or for cooking of course.

    Cheers, Al

If I'm not mistaken, Pappy rents space at Buffalo Trace. Did the bourbon trail a few years ago and you guys are all on point. Good stuff all around.

Was at a Binnys a few years ago and came across 3 bottles of Pappy 12 year. Bought all three. $50 a bottle! Insane. Very good stuff.

I'm lucky enough to have had the 15 year and the 23 year. It was during a whiskeyfest here in Chicago, and I'll admit, I don't remember how good they were (Everything I tried after the first hour was pretty good if you know what I mean!)

I agree with Archer. Smokey peaty scotches are great. Laphroaig in particular. Ardberg too.

Try some High West guys. They make good whiskey.

Very into Ryes right now. I recommend WhistlePig. Expensive for everyday but real good. A cheaper alternative is Jefferesons. And an even cheaper one ($15 a pop!) is Old Overholt, which, for the money, is great!

Oh yeah. Your watch is alright too ; )

    "Very into Ryes right now."

Even though this is the true "Canadian" Whisky, I personally can't stand Rye. Probably from too many rye and cokes in my youth...

I have the Bowmore 12 as well, very good, however I don't like the smoke as much as I used to. Just got a bottle of Balvenie 21 portwood finish upon a recommendation as well. I'll find out how good that is tonight.

    Ahh the Caol Ila.....

I'm more of a Highland man, myself, but our secretaries clubbed together and bought me a bottle of 18 year old Caol Ila for my 50th and gorgeous it was too. Sadly, one of them left work this week to start a new life in Toronto, so quite poignant that Al should have posted that picture. Our loss, Toronto's gain as she is going to be teaching children with learning difficulties and is genuinely the nicest person I have ever met.

    Like chewing old rope.

I'll drink it.. I'll drink most whisky. But I'm also more of a Highland man, and favour a 25 year old Glenfarclas. Tangy, like candied oranges...
