    Hello OF,

I found this listing on eBay for 5k. The buyer is willing to take $3850. I have seen a few of these “big triangle” Seamaster in the fake sections. Wondering what is your opinion on this one. Def beat up but I kinda like the looks of it. Can’t ezplain it. I read a few things to look for that the watch checks but always a good idea to post here too. Your help and wisdom always appreciated. Here some pics:

Do you find it attractive or do you like it because it's cheap? ( relatively speaking of course )

Apart from the obvious things that are in poor condition, ie the dial and bezel, I find it a concern that the rear of the case has loads of rust/pitting/corrosion.

Also there is evidence of rotor rub on the inside case back, yet little wear on the rotor itself.

With an expensive watch like this my major concern would be that the movement looks too clean. To me it looks like a watch that has possibly had a complete movement swap.

I'd proceed with extreme caution and would want an Extract if I was going to buy it ( which I wouldn't as I find it ugly ) or at least a return option if the Extract came back with bad news.

I've mentioned it before here, but it once happened to me with a 165.024, the Extract came back and it wasn't good. It wasn't such a huge big deal then, IIRC the watch had cost me about €900. These days with these watches approaching 5 figures it is another ball game entirely.

If this were a, harder to find no date 165024 BT, it might be worth considering.
The 166024 date versions are more plentiful and (unless price is an overriding factor) you don’t need to settle on a such a poor example.

Thanks for your help. What I like about the watch is that it looks like it was rescued from the bottom of the ocean. With that said, I guess the price to pay for that look in the front is to have something like that in the back end. Given that there is a doubt of the movement being not from that watch I’m going to hold on. I messaged the seller asking for some more information and if he is willing to do a refund base on Extract findings. I will let you know what he says. Thanks again!

    Poor examples suck...

You are better off having a great example of a $1k watch then a shitty example of a $10k watch.

Well seller responded. It’s a no go and he went ahead and canceled the transaction. Here are his answers to my question about history of watch, reason for prior eBay listing with even lower price and if he was k willing to do extract/refund or cancel instead. Thanks again for the advise/opinión again OF! Maybe I’ll get a better one in the future.

i dont' see how 3850 is a "bargain" for this piece
date example is far less sought after than no date version. . there was a very very good version of the no date version for sale on this forum at 11-12/k

unless you can use the parts or have some emotional affinity for this particular model i think this will be very hard to sell in the future

It wouldn't surprise me if the seller has pulled an extract already and.....well, you know the rest :(
