I have a bit of a crush on certain Longines Calatrava style watches and in particular this model keeps pushing my buttons. So please excuse my ignorance but can someone shed some more light on this 5045 Calatrava. I see many 12.68 calibers all over the shop in price range and the seller of this 1940s two tone example has quite a high price tag on it ($6700). Is this a fair price or is the seller chancing it? I have little idea on the originality of the dial, it looks good to me and the case seems unpolished and sharp. Is it a rare piece or are alot of these fetching this price nowdays?
    Thanks for any advice.

Okay, I'm getting out the homemade explosive and leveling the next person's house who uses "Calatrava" as a description for a Longines from the 40's or 50's. ::censored:: ::rant:

That style is called Bauhaus. Type it with me now..... B A U H A U S. Got it? Good.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled wristwatch gawking.

"Ultra-rare, art deco, jumbo, calatrava with tropical dial." LOL. What about the 1943 Longines that was posted on the private seller forum for $1500 a while back? That was a nice one.

Calling it Bauhaus would make me scratch my head just as much as someone calling it a Calatrava. The silver track and indices as well as the leaf hands are design frivolities I would say separates this design from the stark design of the Bauhaus school.

Sorry I was mearly copying the description the seller used, I presumed he knew what it was he was selling it. Thanks for your input, I will keep my eye out for a more reasonably priced version me thinks.
And that is for the other options people posted, very nice watches but just not hitting the same notes this one did.

I agree that this does not follow the Bauhaus design elements, particularly with the leaf hands. I would perhaps tentatively suggest that this is designed in the style of the late Art Deco period, or perhaps a restrained Streamline Moderne.

Why the heck is that thing still for sale?! Hey @Tony C., perhaps you should add "Calatrava" to the title and see hundreds of PM's flowing in. ;)

The OP watch in question is asking a silly price for something that can be found with some patience. My 12.68Z that I recently got wasn't near that asking price, just found with a bit of patience and the help of some folks here on OF:

Adi4 that is a lovely piece, just the look I'm going for. Reminiscent of the heritage 1945, or vice versa.
    Congrats Tony on your sale.

Ha.... I’ve been missing this conversation. I have now been taught it’s not calatrava. Fine. But it certainly isn’t Bauhaus either.
Now I’m the one getting the bazooka out.

Hmm @adi4 this strap looks very nice— and familiar. Looks like it’s from the craftsman whose contact I gave you

Yep, I believe they based it on a slightly different model with the leaf hands. Not 100% sure on the hands since I haven't seen this dial with this handset before, but the patina matches so I'm leaning towards all original. Took me a little bit of searching and waiting for this style, but glad I waited for the right one.

Actually, those are incoming later today I think! This one is a Fluco suede, really great straps and super comfortable.

I agree that the links I sent don't quite hit the same notes as the Longines in your original post. But that price seems ridiculous. Sometimes that perfect watch costs 5x as much, even though it's the same quality, with slightly different design cues.

Congrats on the sale. It was a beautiful watch, something I was considering, and a fair price, but just didn't have the money to spend at the time.

I'll accept Art Deco as a legitimate description also.
