    Long-time lurker, first-time poster.

I’m looking to acquire my first Omega, stepping up from a couple of beater Tags. Well, to be honest, my wife’s looking to get me a pretty awesome 40th birthday present lasted this year, and I’ve decided that a new watch is what I want. I’ve narrowed it down to two watches: the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Chronograph 45.5 mm in blue, on a steel bracelet (ref.: 212.30.44.52.03.001) and the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M GMT Chronograph, also in blue (ref: 215.30.46.51.03.001).

Stock pictures of the two watches are below:

This is going to be a daily driver watch, going from work to a play and back again. I wear a suit 4 days a week. I want something that has a chrono and a timing bezel, both of which I will use. I’m pretty set on diver watches. I know and understand the rules re dress watches, but those aren’t for me. (I’m similarly not interested in Speedmasters.) I’m 6’1”, 250 pounds, with a wrist that varies between 7.25 and 7.5.

I’m in Pittsburgh in business, and I tried both on at the Omega boutique. I thought trying them on would clear it up for me, but I’m still torn. Pics follow. (They only had the black of the GMT Chrono.)

I’m looking for feedback from watch mobs here, and from people who’ve had one or the other watch. Is it too big? Is it too big for my use case—every day with a suit? Advice, opinions, comments, criticism are all welcome. I’m a bit apprehensive because this is a significant step up in quality and size from what I’ve had before.

I prefer the planet ocean. The bezel is much easier to use, the arrow hands are great (IMO) and the micro adjustment class is a must. I think it fits you a little better too. I personally don’t care for the yellow accents on the blue smp chrono. I guess it just depends on how much you want a GMT function.

I prefer the PO over the 300 Diver GMT unless you just have to get a GMT watch.

The PO. It just looks like a more thought-out design to me. One of the guys who works for me has the PO chrono and it looks really great in person.

Thanks for the advice and feedback so far. Please keep it coming.

The picture quality isn’t great. Chalk that up to a combination of lighting in the boutique, difficulty in trying to get the shot, the weird plastic on the watches, and the cameraman.

I definitely don’t need a GMT—that complication wasn’t even on my radar until I saw the 300M GMT chrono. (Because I need/want a timing bezel, most GMTs won’t work for me.) I think I was drawn to the incredible functionality of all three complications/functions—timing bezel, chrono, GMT—in the 300M.

@nurseford25, I’m curious about your comment that the P.O. fits better. It certainly seems more balanced. Do you think it works on my wrist?

I forgot to mention, if you get the PO Chrono, get a rubber strap for it. It makes the watch more versatile and you can switch between the rubber and steel bracelet for casual or dressier occasions, assuming it's your only watch.

Buy it on the bracelet and get the rubber strap second. It's usually much cheaper going it this way rather than getting it on a rubber strap and getting bracelet second.

I will add another vote for the PO. Fantastic watch and fits your wrist nicely. I also agree on picking up a rubber strap as an addition. If you are purchasing from the boutique, negotiate for the rubber strap to be included with the purchase.

From the pictures you posted I think the PO sits better on your wrist. It looks good. Do it!

Wow, the 300M is being slaughtered. I think it may deserve a sympathy vote... but I can’t bring myself to do it because that PO LOOKS SO DAMN GOOD

PO. I have always preferred the hands of the PO over the Diver. I think you’ll find them easier to see at night too.

Wow. The PO gets it in a landslide.

Now I just have to wait until my birthday.....in November.
