Hi everyone on the forums and I'd very much appreciate your time and opinions please.

I'm currently selling my Mido Ocean Star Tribute and had been fairly set on replacing it with the Tudor Black Bay ETA with blue bezel ref. 79220B. Very much like the look of it. Only slight concern is the 50mm lug to lug. Pity the lug width is 22mm also. I've a 6.5 inch wrist and have a Tudor Heritage Ranger which wears fine on me. It's lug to lug is 48mm.

I've now become aware of the Seamaster 2254 and 2230. I like it's looks generally and especially the sword hands. I suppose what I like about it is the sword hands, movement and dial. What I'm not that keen on is the helium escape valve, the bezel (numbers too large and scallop grip). Looks a bit Tag Heuer to me.

However what I'm most concerned about is the male end link that purportedly takes the nominal lug to lug of 47mm to 53mm. Can anyone shed any light on that?

So if you don't mind and you have the time, I'm asking for your experience and opinions on the reality of the lug to lug of the SMP 2254 for a 6.5 inch wrist like mine (BBB 50mm) and your feelings overall about the merits and demerits of the SMP 2254 as against the BBB ETA.

Many thanks,

FergieB

Wow. That's an incredibly specific post. Bravo. Most people just post "what do you think about this blue color?" LOL

I can't directly respond to your question, as I only know newer watches, and even then, I don't know much. 😗

I also have small wrists, and finding a watch that I like that fits can be a challenge.

Haha thanks! Yeah I really can't like any overhang on the wrist and for me the lug to lug measurement is the magic one. Of course with these models one has to buy them as a leap of faith as they're only available second hand. Hopefully some of the other folk will chime in with us two!

I previously owned a 2254 and two Black Bays. Great watches. Wears smaller than a Black Bay even though they are both 41mm. I was not a fan of the scalloped bezel. But like you, love the sword hands, and felt the number markers on the bezel were too large. I sold all of those to get my grail, a Planet Ocean 2201. What I learned is actual size vs perceived size on the wrist are different. If you're concerned about size, try them all on. My point being the Black Bay looks bigger on the wrist compared to my Planet Ocean, which is actually technically larger.

That's great information, thanks. I'll research the PO 2201. I haven't looked at POs before as they seem to be fairly expensive. Thanks for the tip though.

I’m not surprise, it looks great on you. Could be too big on me though. Photos like that are really helpful so thanks very much.

@FergieB I have a 6.5" wrist and also have a 2254! It's one of my most comfortable watches, this has given me an excuse to give it some wrist time as it has been hiding away in the safe 😁

Thanks man those shots show me I’ve nothing to worry about size wise! Exactly what I was looking for so thanks very much for taking the time to help me.

As for your watch it looks terrific on you and I’m glad it’s out of the safe again!

I have a touch bigger wrists than you do but the 2230/2254 wears so nice... You should pick one up. Incidentally this is for sale

A very fine watch indeed. There is value in the 2230 with the solid gold bezel insert and applied logo and markers. I saw yours for sale and I hope you get it sold quickly and to your satisfaction. However, I'm in Ireland so my purchases are always made within the EU for cost and simplicity purposes.

I do find the helium escape valve awkward. I guy I worked with had his come off, so just another thing to fail.

Yes I must say I really don't like it. Other manufacturers make it flush with the case so I really don't know why Omega implemented it in this way.

Of course only a handful of deep sea saturation divers worldwide would ever be in a situation of prolonged lengths of time and the bottom of oceans might conceivably ever need the function so in my opinion it's completely superfluous and in fact may put off customers who might otherwise purchase watches from Omega.
