Spotted a cosmic 2000 automatic 2nd hand 1974 seems in good condition. It's just been serviced but no papers, just original box and a couple of spare links.
Question, i possibly could get it for £600. Is it worth the gamble

Do you like it?

It’s hard to gauge much from one photo but;
1. Case looks over polished.
2. Is there service paperwork? Otherwise take the “it’s been serviced” with a pinch of salt and due to the case design these aren’t easy to service for all watchmakers.
3. Only if you really like the design and the seller can prove a recent service is it worth even considering. I wouldn’t buy it for £600

Cosmic 2000s are decent, sturdy watches. Although they have a difficult-to-open case construction, making servicing more challenging (not all watchmakers will agree to service, as there is a risk of damaging the dial). Inside mine is a cal 1012 which is going strong, although not a highly sought after calibre.

The case and design are very 1970s...you either like that or not.

Cosmic 2000s are generally not prized by collectors for the aforementioned issues, reflected in a lower price.

More photos are needed to assess whether asking price is ok 😕. It seems perhaps a bit high, but if properly serviced, maybe ok?

It looks heavily worn, the bracelet may well be lose, particularly at the case. The inscription has worn away the hippocampus on the caseback.

Personally, I'd wait for a better example... they come about frequently. If you do buy, make sure you're happy that it has actually been serviced properly (as per @Davidt advice).

I would move on from this one and keep looking. Price is steep, loss of Hippocampus as stated above and also less flexibility if the bracelet is loose or too small - it’s an integrated bracelet so it’s going to be hard to replace this with something else. Otherwise the dial looks ok, but the other issues would make this a hard pass for me.

Plenty of these around - try to be patient!
