Been looking for an 18k Connie for a while now

I found this one on Ebay -from Alex in Mehico

A bit of quick research on OF suggested Alex was like the curates egg -good in parts -and the advice was to post anything of his for comment before considering purchase
so I'm doing what I was told.....

    From my review:
the case looks good -very slight polishing -but happy to stand corrected on this point especially
the dial looks spot on -can't see any tampering there
the movement looks (almost suspiciously) pristine
the only thing I can point to is that the minute hand has something going on with the black insert
-and the hands look almost pink in the photos but that might just be a trick of the light (in the last pic they look the correct colour)

I'd be grateful for expert input -I'd rather not be considering dropping a couple of grand and be missing something

    many thanks
    Philip

you know -I was so busy scrutinising the dial, the hands, the case etc -I din't look at the case back
the whole Omega symbol and text below seem to have 'slumped' that's just odd!

No. That is the correct caseback. Here is another example.

The hands look to have been poorly repainted. A skilled watchmaker should be able to resolve this.

Case is razor sharp and dial looks to be solid gold.

Do your diligence, but it looks nice to me.

There you go - superior experience!

Why are they like that or is it only from certain case makers?

    Good luck with it Peemacgee

    Hi Zubair

    welcome to the forum!

you might like to re-post your new watch in it's own thread -otherwise it will 'get lost' in this Constellation thread

(don't worry about this thread -just post your message and the photo of your watch with its own thread title)

members can then see and comment on your watch in its own right

if you have any more pics -eg the back of the watch -that would be useful

    regards

    Philip

I don't know how many gold connies you are going to buy but to me, a 14381 18k gold would be the 4th or 5th on my list.
The first would be a De Luxe with mirror dial then the dog legged with date and the first few models like 2648 2652 or 2699.

    Regards.

Looks fantastic alround. The case is sharp as hell and the dial looks fresh.

But I do feel the comment of hoipolloi. To me this is not the most desirable connie (first being the 1950's arrowhead pie pans and second the doglegged pie pans). However if this is to you the most desirable connie configuration or you're aspiring to forge a connie collection, this is the mandatory contender.

    Thanks Hoi
I just happen to like dome dials - so this one fits the bill
I've also been 'introduced' to another beautiful 18k dome dial from an OF member
So depending on how the bidding goes on the Mexican watch - like London Buses - I could end up with two!
The pie- pans will come later.;)

Nothing wrong with dome dial. I think they are undervalued bunch. Good to hunt now. It is good to have different taste than the mainstream. You always can buy undervalued masterpiece.
Doubled with gold price decrease, certainly it is time to buy the golden pieces of your dream.

well I actually landed this beauty!

    My first gold Connie ::love::::love::

not cheap (I don't think the gold price variations affects vintage watches that much) -but hell! -it's only money.....what price beauty

thank you to all the members who contributed with their (ever) generous advice

    very very happy....

hope to see it here in Dubai-land in a couple of weeks time and will post pics when it arrives

(as an aside -I used Gixen as it was up 4am my time -worked a treat)

    regards

    Philip

The Golden Connie has arrived what can I say -it's wonderful! ::love::::love::
I thought it only proper that I post a couple of pictures

BTW -I know that there has been concern about some of Alex's watches -but in this case I can only give him 10 out of 10
the watch is spot on and arrived incredibly quickly by FedEx

    enjoy
    Philip
