    Hi Folks

Trying to decide whether to go for this one or not, just after some expert eyes casting over it, as much as i've studied the Moonwatch Only Encyclopedia i'm still not sure about it as to me it almost seems too cheap, it's currently up for a little over £2400, it also comes with the original caseback and cover.

I am looking for either a late 861 18 jewel model or an early 1861 with tritium, i'm still learning btw so any advice appreciated.

    Thanks in advance
    Andy

Can you find out the serial? I think that would help. I am guessing 1990-1995 time frame. At $3k USD I am not sold on this one, as it has a missing case back and discolored chrono hand.

Hard to tell but i think its 48339886, i did look it up on https://www.ilovemyspeedmaster.com/productiondateprediction/ and it came back with the details below which makes me think it's all correct but i'm just not sure as the price does seem a little low although it is a private sale.

The original steel caseback and cover are included in the sale.

I don't think £2400 is overly cheap. A fine price, but not something that has to be jumped on. Especially in average condition, and I don't think this one exceeds that... I see no glaring issues though. Service history? If no, then it's sound all-around very average to me.

Ok, well based on that serial# the parts look to be correct. I am not a fan of that style bezel, and I also own that bracelet and it wears different than the the 1998. I just do not find that particular Speedmaster attractive. I also wonder if the minute/hour hands are tritium.

    I would keep looking...

Looks good; you can always source the correct solid caseback for it (or a genuine sapphire caseback)

I think he says it comes with the original caseback and cover as well. In that case, doesn’t look to be a bad deal...

Please note this appears to be a put together set. The papers are worthless as they have the data removed. There is a question as to the bezel also.

    It’s a post 1990 watch though.
