Hi all, This is the model I'm most interested in at present and wonder what ballpark for price I should expect it pay for a good example (no redial, polishing, original crown, etc) Does circa $900-1200USD sound about right?? Thanks in advance
I think that's about twice what I'd want to pay, but then I do have the advantage of knowing (approximately) what I'm looking at and so I'd be looking on ebay. For one in that condition a dealer will probably ask the upper end, but 19 out of 20 dealer watches won't be that nice anyway so you could still end up getting a caning. Anyway what's wrong with a 552? Best way IMO is still to buy here if possible or to watch, wait and learn then when you are ready, get the right one off ebay or from a conventional auction.
Thanks for that @Edward53. It's really useful to get pricing put into perspective. As you say dealers may charge higher fees but many have inferior watches.
There are quite a few DeVille dial patterns. The plain white dials are about 400-600 the last I’ve checked. Patterned dials go for higher. The most common patterned dial would be the “linen” dial.
I was watching one on eBay earlier this week which went for over $1,255 USD! For reference: https://omegaforums.net/threads/1963-omega-smdv-advice-please.67660/
Did you mean to reference the eBay link? It might have hit that price if it’s solid gold and really clean?
Can we see it please? Agreed, my estimate above is for a stainless or gc case, I wasn't thinking of gold.
Yes, @kreyke I meant to reference the OF link. I posted about this particular piece in a separate thread as I was keen on it myself but deterred ultimately by the high price. I'm also copying in the eBay link for additional reference. https://omegaforums.net/threads/1963-omega-smdv-advice-please.67660/ https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/282756497331
Whoa - didn't even come with a BoR? Even though these unishell cased DeVilles are popular, that's a strong price.
That price is insane. Only two bidders beyond $650, one with just 2 FBs nibbling the other all the way up. Looks like a strawman bidding up a goldfish.
Hmm interesting. The second last bidder has 2 feedbacks. I was planning to sell mine on OF but it seems maybe eBay is the way to go.
With USD 1,255 , choices are many. One of the many better choices is a SS 1952 Constellation ref 2648. eBay ended at 1,187 , for which I bidded usd1,111. A marginal failure.
