Anyone have any thoughts on a fair price for the below 1953 Omega - Manual Wind Cal 285 (Ref. 2760-5SC) or general thoughts on the condition? Looks like the lume dots at 9 10 and 11 are missing, does this drastically alter the value?

Excited to see what everyone thinks. Thanks!

Looks original and really nice condition overall movement dial case etc.. Those missing lume dots would drive me to the madhouse though. Not sure on price maybe google the ref or try a completed listings search on eBay for that ref.

Regarding the price I saw that many Omega vintage mechanical watches from that period on ebay end at about 200-250 pounds...a very good condition can rise the price a little...a poor condition lower the price..

It's not the missing lume dots that should lower the value, it is the ones that are on the dial that should... ;)

Dial looks original. Case not overpolished, if at all. I am biased, I love guilloche dials, but I am with @Seaman, I would give 250 GBP or maybe a little more.

If you wore the watch, would you relume or ignore the missing dots?

It has already been relumed, @felsby :)

If you look closely at the dial, you'll see that there is a fair bit of dirt in the grooves of the textured dials especially around the markers and the print. Together with the relume it points to a reasonable conclusion that the dial has been cleaned at some point and new lume applied. The hands seem to have been subjected to some cleaning as well.

I'd say that your estimate is probably pretty correct. It's not a real collector's piece, but it will sell.

im always attracted to a perfectly balanced dial esp with even number hour index. 283, 285, or 286 are faily larger manualwind calibers. this one is fine with me because of its all steel case, not capped gold. imo $400-500 is about reasonable range.

Thanks guys this is all really helpful!

If I go ahead and purchase seems it's not really a collectors piece so I would be owning it mostly just as a nice watch to wear. Given that, is it possible to have the poorly applied lume removed (I agree that the existing lume is bit annoying :) )?

@pelloc Yeah, you can get the lume removed fairly easily. I purchased a 2496-1 with the cal 283 recently for £200, but it is gold capped. I think this is around the going price for them. P1010251.JPG

If you remove the lume it may look awkward with the lumed hands but also could look better than it does now. Still good looking for its age imo.
I'd also check with the seller re. relume and see what he can shed on it if anything. He may have info to clarify any questions/doubts if he knows the provenance. also will help your bargaining power as venerable conelpueblo suggests.
