    Hi,

I was just trying to get opinions on the approach to negotiating a price on a watch. I am in NY State and have considered going to New Hampshire to save on the taxes.

Anyway, I am looking at a watch that retails at $10,700 and was quoted that on the phone with a salesman who said 'we can do better than that.' I know that LOL, but how much better?

So what is a reasonable offer for a new watch from a local retailer (Not interested in risking a on line purchase, I am not that trusting)?

I am considering showing up with $7500 cash and making an offer.

    Mike

Depends on the watch and the dealer. If it's a new release... good luck.

If you are working with an AD/boutique, bringing cash won't necessarily help you vs paying with credit card - might as well get the points.
Any yeah - as stated above - depends on the model and the dealer

A model retailing at $10,7k...are you looking at the new Moonphase on bracelet? Have you purchased from this particular AD before? You may be able to push the 30% discount through and seems like a good place to start. However, depending on your history with this store, 20% off is decent and 25% would be pretty good. If they won't budge more than 10-15% off, you can do better.

Omega has really increased their prices drastically so they have room for discounts, I think 30% is reasonable or I wouldn't buy it.

If you return to NY with the watch you purchased, sales tax free, in New Hampshire, you owe a Use Tax to NY State at an identical rate of the sales tax you saved.:D
