    Hi All
I am getting an offer for Panerai 1312 at around 35% off the retail price (i believe $ 7500) for a second hand piece used for a few months with box and papers. Do you think it's a good investment. I don't have much knowledge on the discount available on Panerai. Please suggest. Here is the reference image.

Did you just invoke the "I" word?

They did, but I suspect in this case they might be thinking more along the lines of "is it a good deal" rather "will it appreciate in value after purchase".

Forget the investment. Do you like the watch and would you be happy with it regardless even if it dropped in value?

I do like the watch. My entire family invests in gold/jewellery but I personally like watches and do buy any kind of jewellery. For me watches are my jewelry that is why I try to see if it's a worthy investment.

Exactly. I like the watch but don't know whether this is a good deal or not

Pams are Pams. These are common, when Pams tank this will be one of the first. Many more great looking LE’s that sit at retail price out there.

This one went under the hammer today ... it was a tad more than the 7500 ... but you did get a jacket and some photies with it:

(It hammered at £42000, from memory)

@Foo2rama Thank you so much for the feedback. Wow. This would tank first :(
Apologies for my ignorance but what do you mean by LE?

Limited Edition - which this model is not. If you are looking at watches as an investment, well there's pretty much only one company that historically been a safe bet, and that one is the big R. But that's a minefield. Buy to enjoy, don't buy to expect any ROI.

There are several Subs or Explorers on the secondary market that you should be able to get for far less than $7500.

Panerai as Innvestment is a NO NO NO.
Unless is a rare vintage Panerai, modern one not so much/not at all.

Pretty much what rcs914 said... plus $7500 for this secondhand model is expensive imo.

Limited edition, which they put out constantly. Which hurts resale on regular ones. PAM’s are already considered over priced for what you get. The fear is like Bell and Ross did they will go out of fashion and tank. Or at some point they will saturate the market as only a small percentage of people want a watch that big.

Don’t get me wrong I’ll own a California dial at some point, I’d just not bet on them holding value esp regular production ones.

I'm a big Panerai fan and enjoy having several models. I have to admit the accuracy some of the other posters have on resale or "investment" of this model. It's a standard issue model without a ton of fervor from Paneristi. As such, I would not expect any appreciation on the model's value over time.

Purchase pre-owned at 35-40% off if you like and want this watch. If your motivation is anything else, pass on it.

A Panerai is just about as good an investment as driving a new car off the lot

I think if you bought this watch as an investment, you'd get exactly what was due to you in return.
