Dear Omegaforum. I have recently bought a vintage omega from around 1949 according to the 118xxx serial number. The caliber is 283, and the case back is numbered 2537-6. I am now looking for more info on this watch such as possible reference number, originality of the dial. Also I am looking for a new genuine omega crystal for is. The replacement crystal fitted now is not so nice since the dome-edges of the crystal sort of “blocks” the frontview of e.g. the indices at 12. When searching the Omega vintage database and filters for watches with cal.283, I find nothing looking like my watch. Questions are many but here goes: I have never previously seen a case back reference 2537-6, is this OK? Anyone with suggestions for the correct Omega crystal with this case 2537-6. The dial with the luminous material (radium?) on the “inside” of the 3, 6, 9, 12 numbering, is that seen before or is it an indication of a re-dial? Would really appreciate if someone could advice, thanks /Jakob
Hi TDK. yes, that looks very similar with regards to the case for CK2537, and it was apparantly delivered with different dial layouts. So the printing of 2537 on the case-back of this watch actually refers to the reference number instead of the case-ref, maybe?
https://www.omegawatches.com/planet-omega/heritage/vintage-details/15669/ they came with different dial layouts and sometimes different hands.
Thx tdn-dk for your appreciation and help. I wonder how accurate these database informations are, the caseback should be press-in type according to both database links, but mine is screw-inn.
I have the same watch and it definitely has a screw back. So stay easy and lean back, your watch is 100% legit and it is a well preserved example - enjoy. I can understand that you don´t feel comfortable with the look of this crystal -if you can find the right crystal it will improve the look for sure
