I visited a Jeweler yesterday, one I frequent on a regular basis, and she was selling a collection of her fathers watches. Along with the typical Rolex and Breitling models, I saw two Le Coulre watches that looked interesting. I'm not very familiar with the brand, and wondered if anyone out there could fill me in on these. I don't know anything other than what you can see. Any advice would be appreciated.
The first one is more collectible then the second one. On the bay sellers calls it a ship wheel case or something along that line normally 14k case, the second case doesn't have much name to it but if you spend time looking, there is a matching model for the ladies. Thanks pretty much all know from what I read.
I thought the top one was a "bottle cap" model? Can't remember much else about it. I think the bottom one is described as having "ribbon lugs," IIRC.
Either name is acceptable. However, if you peruse the vintage LeCoutlre ads via Google, it probably has a given model name. I can't recall it at present. The second watch is called "Knotted Lugs". The same style of case was used by several watch companies in the late 1940's. Hope this helps, gatorcpa
All I can add is that they most likely use a cal 480 movement and are from the 40s. For more info, the go to person is Zaf Basha at classicwatch.com.
