    Hey guys,

I just won an auction for this Omega Admiralty for $700.00. Original crystal, Caliber 565, and what appears to be the original bracelet. Seems legit to me except that I haven't seen this dial variant and the second hand being wrong.

Did I goof? Any advice is appreciated!

Looks like some form of Genève Admiralty, although when you see them it's usually with this dial:

That's the correct case reference and caliber for that model.

the omega logo looks like the wrong time period to me? and looks different to this one on TZ

this one on WUS has the same logo, but missing "automatic"

Interestingly, this is the dial variant for the Cal 601 version:

Did a bit more research and found these.

Not sure what's going on with the curved second hand, but this one looks pretty legit.

So I went ahead and completed the purchase for this watch. Its a risk, but I feel confident enough that I found some variant of the Reference 166.038 Omega Admiralty.

Will keep you guys posted :)

This 'photo' was done on a flatbed scanner, which takes so much time the second hand moved during the scanning process, so it comes out curved.

That's great insight, thank you sir!

I'm planning to order the correct orange second hand from Otto Frei but it looks like those were only made for Calibers 865 and 861. Does anyone know if either would fit in a Caliber 565 movement?

You just need the right tool to install it.

Hah, I'll probably be using a similar tool to bonk my head if the watch turns out to be a fake! :D

The watch arrived today. Tested all the crown functions (time and date setting, winding the mainspring), and everything checked out. However, I haven't gotten a chance to time it for accuracy. :)

    Some initial thoughts:

    1) Not a big fan of the "flexy" band that came with the watch. It feels flimsy and from the looks of it difficult to size. Planning to swap with with a leather NATO strap (http://www.ebay.com/itm/16mm-Brown-...I-UTCzulu-IW-SUISSE-18-20-22-24-/170938258070Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network).
    2) The crystal seems to have some light cracking / discoloration around the tension ring so I plan to replace that as well.
    3) Was definitely planning to replace the seconds hand with the reference orange / red hand for this watch, but I can't seem to find the part number for this watch. Can anyone help on this?

Overall, while I am somewhat happy about the watch, I have mixed feelings as it seems to need a lot more cosmetic work than I expected (crystal / bracelet replacement).

What do you guys think? Is this a watch potentially worth investing more money in? I'd really appreciate your honest expert opinions. :)

By the way, here's a group pic with the rest of my watches:

That particular dial variant does not show up on the Omega Extranet, but with older watches like this the Extranet is very hit and miss. I do see a grey dial with orange markers in the same style as the black dial Genève variation that Dennis posted above, and the second hand for it is orange - the part number for that one is 066UP8117, and it's for a Cal. 560.

    Cheers, Al

Thanks for the info Archer. How does one go about ordering parts directly from Omega? Is going through a watchmaker the only option?

On a side-note, I've been wearing the watch every other day for the past week. Timed the watch through 96 hours and it's averaging a ridiculous +0.3 seconds per day. WTF!? I wasn't expecting anything quite like this.

A watchmaker with an Omega account can order it for you.

Had a new crystal and the correct second hand installed - what a world of difference that made! Major kudos to Archer for ordering the parts!
